The most beautiful thing about dungeon-crawler games is that they never get old or boring. Every new game is a new experience you can’t wait to explore. The Elder Scrolls: Blades is no different, as it brings more excitement to the table. This amazing FTP action role-playing game was developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks. The game is a part of The Elder Scrolls series and was set following the events of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It is a prequel to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. The Elder Scrolls: Blades is available on Android, iOS, and Nintendo Switch and was released in May 2020.

Great Storyline with Lots of Potentials

Blade’s storyline centres around a group of legendary spies and bodyguards, known as the Titular Blades, who were sent into exile. You will play as a surviving with of the group. You return home to find your town in ruins, with no idea what happened. You will then be tasked with uncovering the reason behind the destruction of your hometown by the Bloodfall Queen’s mercenaries. Your major quests in the early part of the game will involve rebuilding your town and finding NPCs that will help you achieve your tasks. The narrative is an intriguing one that has an interesting way of getting players hooked on both the gameplay and the storyline. The Elder Scrolls: Blades offers an exciting promise of adventure right from the start, with plenty of tasks to complete along the way. The NPCs may seem disinterested sometimes, but they provide valuable information to aid your journey.

Exciting Gameplay and Improved Features

Earlier Games in The Elder Scroll were based on an open-world perspective and had world map features. However, the game design in Blades was built on a more linear perspective to make it compatible with mobile devices. You can, however, play the game in either landscape or portrait mode, depending on your preferences. Although I was initially disappointed when I found out that I couldn’t sneak around NPC’s, move corpses around for easy movement, or even find items to steal, hide or store, I soon got over the disappointment after exploring the gameplay and features in Blades.

For instance, the combat system involves using melee weapons, spells, and ranged attacks. You can even equip yourself with as many as three different magic spells in a single combat. The game also features hand-crafted dungeons as well as procedurally generated ones, which makes the dungeons more exciting, with a variety of options. Character customization is also amazing, as you can level up your characters, increase their skills and abilities, or even customize their appearance.

Three Amazing Game Modes to Look Out For

There are three major game modes in The Elder Scrolls: Blades. These include Abyss, Arena, and Town modes. The Abyss mode provides a roguelike experience that challenges players to explore an endless dungeon and progress as far as possible. Although this mode is not directly tied to the game’s general storyline, it provides an excellent opportunity for players to gain experience and strength and also improve their skills. The Abyss was my favorite game mode when I first started playing the game.

The second game mode, the Arena mode, features more interactive and exciting experiences than the Abyss mode. For instance, players can engage in player-versus-player multiplayer battles with other players. This is fun, as you get to play with fellow Elder Scroll enthusiasts across the globe. You can also test your skills in the real world against more experienced players. This mode is perfect for players looking for new challenges.

The Town Mode Beats the Other Modes Hands Down

The main game mode in The Elder Scrolls: Blades is the Town mode. This game mode focuses on the game’s storyline, and players can concentrate on missions and quests to achieve the game’s overall objectives. The town mode serves as a hub where players can receive quests and interact with non-player characters (NPCs) to progress the storyline. As the game begins, you will find that the town has been destroyed. It is now left to you to rebuild everything. Your initial quests in the town mode are all aimed at rebuilding and upgrading the town, eventually allowing you to unlock additional quests and NPCs. The most exciting part of this mode for me is that I can visit other friends’ town hubs anytime. This feature allows for additional social interaction, which is usually more fun than NPC interactions.

Blades Features Two Distinct Gameplay Types

When I began playing The Elder Scrolls: Blades, I noticed my excitement that the gameplay was in two forms. One part involves fighting and destroying enemies around the town, while the other involves rebuilding and developing your town. When you kill enemies, you will get to collect materials that you can use to build your town. The more missions you complete, the more exciting levels you unlock. My favorite part of the game is its simplicity regarding the setup and how easily it carries players along. The great thing about Blade’s gameplay is that you’re sure to have fun, no matter what you’re doing whether you’re slaughtering enemies, collecting loot, building your town, or even collecting information.

The Elder Scrolls: Blades feature rare chests filled with amazing loot. I find the loot to be the perfect reward for combat, as it has you wanting to destroy as many enemies as possible. Components of the loot could range from simple equipment like swords and armor to more exciting items such as shields and gems. You never know what you’ll find next.

Conclusion

The Elder Scrolls: Blade is one of those games that will keep you hooked on your mobile device for hours, with its intensive gameplay and amazing storyline. The different game modes also make the game playable by anyone, irrespective of their skills or gaming experience. Blades is worth checking out for fans of the series or those looking for a new mobile RPG to try out.
