CRASHY CATS.

Although pixelated, the cats in Crashy Cats are as realistic as they come. We all know these cute creatures can be destructive, and this game shows that. This is why I call it the ultimate game of cat destruction.

Crashy Cats is a mobile game predominantly for android phone users, so sorry to the iOS users. It is also a side-scrolling game. Developed by Electric Turtle, it makes a brilliant addition to pixel 2D games.

Simple But Enjoyable Gameplay

The gameplay of Crashy Cats is quite simplistic. As the name implies, you control a cat that crashes through rooms, destroying priceless items, expensive electronics, and humans. You do this by making the cat run, jump, bounce, and crash through all obstacles, and you can go through endless levels. You get money (coins) the more things you knock over. You can also earn coins by hitting and making huge explosions or through secret bonus stages where you glide for endless coins.

You control the jumps by simply tapping on your screen. This simplicity does not affect your enjoyment of the game. Not all obstacles should be knocked over, however. For example, you must not collide with the sitting and floating dogs; if you do, you will die. There are also large craters that you can fall through, and there is no coming back from the fall.

As you run through the endless length of rooms, you can wake up multiple cats to run with you. This is a neat trick to keep you playing the game longer because you can continue the game with the other cats when your main cat dies. You are not disqualified until the last cat dies, so your job is to see how long you can survive to achieve the highest score. You also get to fly through space in an exciting rainbow burst.

The Most Exciting Pet Store

I bet you have never seen an in-game store with more cuteness than in Crashy Cats. In the store, you get a long list of hats to enhance the cuteness of your cat. You can also choose your cats, but it is not the generic cat choices you can obtain with coins or fish like the Panda and Red Fox. You can also buy different types of cats with real money, such as bear cat, iCat, slime cat, Gargoyle cat, Nano cats, Sir Meow (my favorite), and the most expensive of the lot, Golden Pig.

I don’t know if having any of these upgrades improves your chances of going farther or doing cooler tricks, but you can find out when you play the game. The game also features other additions that you can ignore over time. For example, the Daily Dog newspaper you get after every run is great. It seems everything about this game is targeted at enhancing cuteness.

Incredible Pixelated Graphics Style

I should have said pixelated graphics at its best, but that depends on the type of phone you are playing with. The game is only compatible with android phones, and we know that these phones have different screen frame rates and display thresholds. Using a more recent and high-quality android phone should have the best pixelated mobile gaming experience. You may find it difficult to notice specific features like ledges if you use an older or low-quality android phone. I know people whose cats have fallen into ledges they didn’t know were there because of their pixel quality.

Aside from that, this is a low resolution but high quality for a pixel mobile game. I give the developer kudos for infusing amazing art, despite it being a pixelated game. Some great transitions come in when you least expect them. For example, in selecting cats, Sir Meow has a short montage involving a sword, which is just beautiful.

Befitting Audio Work

The audio work in Crashy Cats is as you would expect. It fits nicely with the theme and comes with the endless chiming of coin collection. I like that it changes from the regular running gameplay to the turbo boost. This attention to detail contributes to making the game a great experience.

Not All Free-To-Play Games Demand Money

I always say that free-to-play games have two challenges across the board: the need to accommodate ads and the temptation to demand real-life money. As a gamer, I have seen many mobile games handle these issues differently, and I think Crashy Cats is one of those that do a fine job.

The first good thing about Crashy Cats is that there are many cute things to purchase. The second is that the game does not compel you to use real-life money unless necessary. There are many alternatives, such as coins, fish, and in-game money. You can get an abundant supply of coins in the game and a good number of fish as well. You only need money to purchase special cats like the iCat, Gargoyle cat, Nano, Sir Meow, and others.

No matter how much you dislike them, the game comes with adverts. They come in intermittently, and you can choose to avoid them, but the ads are inevitable. With the updated aspect ratio of Android devices, I don’t think the game is well optimized for such phones. The new 2:1 aspect ratio negatively affects the gameplay. I believe this can be sorted by an update or in a sequel. I also noticed that the game lags sometimes. This may indicate a bug within the app that an update can fix.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Crashy Cats is a pretty cool game. The ranking system reports your proficiency level and keeps you coming back for more. I like that the game takes place in different stages, such as an Office, a Dojo, and a Dungeon. I highly recommend this game.
