The Entropy Centre is one of my favorite post-apocalyptic games this year. This amazing first-person sci-fi game has a way of capturing the attention of players with its engaging gameplay. Published by Playstack Ltd and developed by Stubby Games, The Entropy Centre is an adventure game that takes players on a thrilling journey through a world ravaged by destruction and extinction. The game is available on PC and consoles, including PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, and was first released in November 2022.

Set in a Future that has Experienced Multiple Pasts

The Entropy Centre is set in a futuristic world where you play as a scientist tasked with saving the world from destruction. The Entropy Centre, a powerful machine that controls the world’s energy, has malfunctioned and is causing chaos and destruction. Prior to its malfunction, the aim of the machine was to save the world from destroying itself through constant wars.

The machine keeps resetting time each time the world was on the brink of collapse. After so many trials, the machine was able to save hundreds of species from extinction. However, the machine has run out of successes, and the world is about to go extinct. Your mission is to find a way to fix the machine and restore order to the world.

The story of The Entropy Centre is a mix of hope and despair. On one hand, there are moments of triumph and small victories that keep you going.  But on the other hand, there are moments of heartbreak and loss. You’ll see the devastation that is the fate of the world, and you’ll see the possibility of losing it all. One of the most compelling aspects of the game’s story is the way it explores the theme of human resilience. Despite the odds stacked against them, the survivor in the game is determined to keep going and rebuild their world.

The Game’s Plot Features a Unique Perspective

The plot of The Entropy Centre is unlike any other sci-fi narrative that surfaced in 2022. As the protagonist, you find yourself inside an abandoned tropical biodome on the moon, accompanied by your talking gun. Suddenly, Earth explodes right in front of your eyes. It was initially devastating, but I soon found out that I could rewind time. However, you must be ready to solve lots of complex puzzles to undertake a time travel adventure in the game. To power the massive space laser intended for the job, you must solve a series of puzzles. It’s amazing that this incredible indie game was created by just one person, making it even more mind-bending than its storyline.

As you awaken, you find yourself in a dilapidated concrete structure surrounded by offices and testing areas. You have no recollection of how you arrived at this place, and the countless employees of the facility are nowhere to be seen. In order to achieve your objective, you have at your disposal an exceptionally intelligent firearm and a myriad of puzzles to solve. The hurdles become increasingly intricate as you progress through the game, and the best part is that there is no risk of receiving fall damage.

The Puzzles Start Easy But Get Complicated as You Play

The Entropy Centre welcomes players with easy puzzles, don’t get too comfortable though, it’s a ploy to make you get your head in the game. Most of the puzzles revolve around tiny cubes you must manipulate to achieve your objectives. There are different times, with different functions or abilities.

My favorite cubes are the special cubes that are the centerpiece of the dozens of puzzles in the game. You can use these cubes by placing them on pads, which will in turn activate elevators or unlock gates. Some cubes are however passive, while others can simply serve as jump pads to reach higher platforms or become bridges for crossing gaps. As the game progresses,

The Entropy Centre introduces new cube types, which adds to the challenge of the gaming experience. However, solving the puzzles requires more than just the cubes. For instance, your gun can reverse time on an object by 38.1 seconds, requiring players to envision a sequence of events and work backward to find the solution. In essence, players must determine their endpoint and then reverse engineer the puzzle to find the beginning.

The Entropy Centre Keeps You Invested in the Game

What I love most about playing The Entropy Centre is the feeling of being completely involved in its world. From the moment I started playing, I felt like I had been transported to a completely different place and time. The game’s setting is incredibly detailed and atmospheric, with every location feeling like it has its own story to tell. I also love the sense of freedom that the game offers. There are so many different ways to approach each challenge. Another thing I appreciate about the game is the way it challenges you to think creatively and strategically.

Amazing Voice Acting that Lets You Connect with the AI

I love the voice acting in The Entropy Centre because it brings a bit of humanity to the game. The AI and her witty character serve as a great companion for Aria and normally brings humor and life to the game. When the puzzles get tough and frustrating, you can always count on the AI to give you some interesting information. While the AI aims at humor, some of her jokes are not so funny, but we could live with that.

Conclusion

The Entropy Centre is an excellent adventure game that’s sure to satisfy fans of the genre. The game’s intensive world, crafting system, and challenging combat make it a must-play for anyone who loves survival games. While the story could have been better, it doesn’t detract from the overall experience.
