KingsAge is a medieval-themed, free-to-play strategy game. This browser game puts you on the throne as a king, with two paths to choose from. Either lead your kingdom to economic dominance or build off it a military colossus.  With your group of loyalists, break new frontiers and establish new domains. Or join forces with other colonies and forge formidable alliances.

Build an Indefatigable Empire

You start the game with a small colony, but you have a duty to make an empire of it. This strategy game will require you to manage resources and excel in commerce effectively. It’s the only way to develop a sprawling empire.

In Kings Age, you have several other colonies on the continent. These colonies are continually expanding. You either build a financial or military fortress or get swallowed up. In the end, you don’t have a choice – you must be the King of the Century. While it’s much fun to battle these neighboring colonies, there’s a chance to forge alliances. These allies allow the parties to sheath their swords. They can also come together to ransack other partnerships. You need nothing more here than your skill of diplomacy.

How do you build an empire? The game gives you wood, stone, and a mine. Turning these raw materials into large buildings and sophisticated weaponry is an entire thrill.

Getting Started

You have four different orientations to start from – North-west, North-east, South-west, and South-east. There’s a short tutorial at the beginning that serves as a guide, but you can choose to ignore it. The game’s screen shows your settlement and the buildings you have in it. From the map, you can view your continent and what it takes to attack the colonies in it.

If you choose to attack a colony, you blow the tune for battle. You must have attained some level of military strength to launch an attack. That’s why you need first to build your Barracks to even begin with. The market features lots of vibrancy and spectacle. There, merchants come for the sale and purchase of a variety of goods. A Level 5 Warehouse is the requirement for setting up a market.

Be a Master of Resource

In KingsAge, you have dedicated workers, known as colonists, responsible for fetching these resources. They fetch the wood from the forests surrounding the colony and send them to the sawmill. There, they are processed into different sizes and shapes for construction and expansion. They get the iron mineral from the ore mine, and the quarry produces the stone.

While there’re plenty of resources to collect, the game limits how many you can gather initially. To raise the bar, you have to expand your sources – ore mire, quarry, and sawmill. Also, the warehouse’s size determines how many resources you can store. The bigger the warehouse, the more resources you can have. Expanding the warehouse is one thing; keeping it safe is another. So, it would help if you set up a hiding place. Doing so will limit how many resources looters can access.

The warehouse protects your goods from natural elements like rainfall. It’ll do little or nothing to keep pillagers away. That, again, underscores the importance of building a hideout. The screen also shows you the alliance invites you have, with a button that allows you to search for them too.

A Vibrant City of Commerce

Trade forms a core part of the gameplay. As you produce goods for sale, mules are needed to transport them to other parts of the continent. There’s also a need for a market that serves as the departure and entry points for goods.

Expanding your barns, markets and raising more mules will translate to better commerce. The result is a blossoming economy.

Raise a Galactic Army

In KingsAge, there are nine military and two non-military units. You have the Barracks where your soldiers are trained for battle. They stand in defense of the colony from invading enemies. Also, they help members of the colony’s alliances when the need arises.

Many a time, you’ll need to break through the enemies’ ranks. In victory, your soldiers will loot as many resources as they can carry. However, the possibility of success is determined by a couple of factors. First, the numbers. Without enough soldiers in your army, the enemies could easily overpower them. Second, the level of military units you send out to battle does play a critical role.

For example, the Squire unit has over three times the Templar unit’s strength and do better in battle. Your first line of defense during an attack is the wall that surrounds the colony. The Archers depend on it for proper positioning. Improving on the wall’s level will improve your level of defense.

Colonize Other Colonies for Sport

In advanced levels of the game, you get a chance to colonize other colonies. Launch an attack and reduce the enemy’s overall power by 40 and 50%. A second attack will reduce the ability to zero. That gives you absolute control over the enemy’s colony.

Conclusion

KingsAge is essentially revisiting the medieval era. This time around, you’re doing so in an intense strategy browser game. Building an empire with raw materials is a thrill – any day. But that’s not all you get. You have the chance to become a military giant on the continent. Take over other colonies and turn them into yours! The game may be over a decade old; it takes nothing from its exciting gameplay.
