There’s a blanket of darkness over the land, with a sea of demons rushing to trample the gates under their feet. But it’s not going to be an easy call for the deadly demons as you have several heroes to stand in the gap for the land. Darkness Rises is an epic fantasy with a demanding path to sending the enemies to the abyss.

A Simple, Yet Encapsulating Story

The game begins with an attack on your home by different monsters, including trolls, orcs, and dragons. You get thrown into the action of defending yourself against these terrifying creatures. But that’s only the beginning of a gameplay of warfare.

There’s a tutorial at the beginning to help and guide you through the dynamics of the game. But the tutorial isn’t the easiest thing to go through, and can quickly become a burden considering how tedious it is to navigate through. Reading through the help section of the game will equip you with most of the things you need to know. So the tutorial might actually be unnecessary.

Darkness Rises excels in the area of combat with smooth, fast-paced action that’s completely enjoyable. Your character has a palpable reality that’s just exciting, with a glowing life that’s just incredible. You can wade through a group of enemies with no sluggishness or drawbacks. The awesome animations deserve all the praise, as it gives the game a glow it does badly seek. 

Victory Lies In Your Hero’s Hands

The game’s title Darkness Rises only presents one side of the long, grueling story. That’s understandable because it creates a sense of intensity in a player even before they begin. However, what you’ll come to appreciate in this game is the array of powerful heroes prepared to match the demons fire for fire, blood for blood. 

There are four classes to choose from, and then you can go on to become a powerful force. But becoming a formidable force starts with customizing your hero to reflect the persona you desire. The game has exceptional customization features, that let you set the sex, hair color, eye color, and other features of the main character. Then you’re ready to raze through the army of ferocious monsters, decimating them like the world belongs to you. 

You could play the single-player mode that has you slashing through the dark forces like there’s no tomorrow. The demonic horde could be as threatening as death, but you’re prepared to face them head-on. Get into your true character and decimate them with incredible fighting skills, shielding yourself from their attacks. As much as you want to send them to the abyss, you have to protect yourself from being sent there.

When you’re tired of facing the demons, you move on to the more exhilarating boss battles. These battles are as challenging as you’ll find anywhere, and it takes a lot of grit and tenacity to survive them. The Player vs. Environment encounters get even more intense and engaging as you level up. 

If the tempo such encounters bring isn’t terrific enough, you can jump into the dungeons battles for the most exasperating battles in Darkness Rises. Join forces with others to take on these dungeons and reap rich rewards. If you’re not in for creating guilds, you can enroll in others and join a party of fighters for an enthralling experience.

An Intent To Kill

Your attack method may vary according to class, but the intent remains the same – to kill. The game features several challenges, and everything remains basically the same, save the conditions for winning a fight and your set of allies. In all, the base of every challenge is murder. Holding down the big button at the screen’s bottom releases your combos skills. 

Also on the screen are other buttons that represent your skillset. So it’s pretty easy to unleash them when the need arises. There’s also a dodge button for evading an attack from a foe. The skull button occasionally comes up, allowing you to launch a powerful attack on an opponent, and that usually comes with some fascinating animations. 

The game controls hardly gave me any issues, and the few times the glitches occurred, there was no serious impact on the game. It turns out that Darkness Rises cares more about your score rank before entering a fight than your actual precision during battle. 

Darkness Rises will offer little disappointment if you go into it expecting little. It’s hard to rank it among the top hardcore action game but does pass for an enjoyable game. The character customization feature is commendation, and the incredible animations sit atop its greatest features. Just like in most games, there’s always a vacuum that never fills. Darkness Rises is no different.
