Scarlet Nexus is by far one of my most favorite role-playing games this year. The single-player action game was developed by Bandai Namco Studios and is available on Windows, Playstation 4, Playstation 5, Xbox One, Xbox series X, and S. The combat system of Scarlet Nexus is quite impressive and challenging.

I particularly liked how the developers of Scarlet Nexus perfectly combined the physical and metaphysical features of this intriguing game. This review will give you an in-depth understanding of Scarlet Nexus, including its features, flaws, and everything in between. If you love action role-playing games, Scarlet Nexus is undoubtedly a must-play for you.

Brain-Eating Monsters vs. Brainy Superheroes

The setting of the game is based on an alternate reality in the near future. Scarlet Nexus leverages technological advancement and the future it offers. The world, in the timeline of the Game, has greatly advanced in technology, thereby making it possible for society to discover a substance in the human brain. The substance was said to be supernatural, and when properly harnessed, caused humans to have superpowers and abilities. This substance was known as the psionic hormone.

Although not the entire population was gifted with these mind powers, most of the population seemed to have the powers. Just like any other action role-playing game, some fierce antagonists are out to cause havoc. Some mindless mutants fell from the sky and are known to eat up human brains.

The fate of humanity is left in the hands of the ‘Other Suppression Force,’ commonly referred to as OSF. To protect, humanity OSF has to recruit the best and most gifted persons in the art of psychokinesis. The plot and storyline of Scarlet Nexus are filled with conspiracies, unpredictable twists, and drama.

Battle of The Other Suppression Force and the Other Monster Aliens

Scarlet Nexus is played from a third-person perspective. As a player, you are at liberty to choose and control one of the two principal characters of the game, who are both members of the ‘Other Suppression Force. Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall are tasked with defending their city ‘New himuka’ from the Others. Both characters have psychokinetic powers, which they could use in fighting and defeating their enemies.

Apart from their mental powers, the characters can also fight with physical weapons like swords and knives. They can use their mental abilities to pick and throw different objects at their enemies. To upgrade the powers of the main characters, players can access the ‘brain Map.’ From the map, players can upgrade their characters to different skill levels. The characters also have different combat abilities.

At different levels of the game, various members of the OSF will be assigned to assist the major characters. Each assistant or team member has an extraordinary power or combat ability. These abilities can be shared through the ‘Brain Link.’ Once shared, the major characters can then use their powers to defeat enemies.

Combat and All The Fun That Comes With It

Characters in Scarlet Nexus use a kinetic psychic system. With their psychokinetic powers, the main characters of the game, Yuito, and Kasane can fight and destroy the ‘Others.’ To attack, the protagonist can lift different objects, break them, and throw them at their enemies. They can also form bonds with their team members with the help of the ‘brain Link.’ These bonds will enable them to use their team members’ powers.

The Others are resistant to standard combat equipment like guns, which means that they can only be defeated through psychokinetic powers. Different powers are more effective on enemies in different situations. For instance, when an enemy is covered in water, players could use electricity to destroy such enemies. However, when they are covered in oil, fire becomes the best weapon. Either of these powers can be used when the enemy is not covered in a particular substance.

Once more skills are unlocked in the skill tree, the fight becomes more exciting and intense. At this point, players can create a fantastic combination of powers to defeat enemies. Players can also activate multiple powers at a time. To maximize the abilities of team members, one can program their behavior to focus on a particular strategy.

Weapons – The True Power of the Mind

As mentioned earlier, players are at liberty to choose either of the two protagonists of the game, which are Yuito Sumeragi and Kasane Randall. Both characters have unique combat abilities. They also have different team members who have unique powers and combat abilities as well.

Yuito’s abilities shine more in close-quarter combats, and he is very good with a sword. Yuito can borrow teleportation powers from his team member to enable him to get closer to his enemies. He can also borrow sclerokinetic powers to nullify any damage made against him by his enemies.

Kasane, on the other hand, is a mid-range fighter who is better with knives. Just like Yuito, she can borrow different powers from her team members. For instance, for instance, she can borrow duplicating powers from Kyoka to multiply the number of objects thrown at the enemies. She can also borrow hypervelocity powers to slow time or borrow invisibility powers to change positions and confuse enemies.

Scarlet Nexus has a remarkable weapon collection system that enables you to find weapons from different dungeons or even acquire weapons from fallen enemies. Alternatively, you can purchase weapons and other accessories to increase your weapon collection. Players can also upgrade their weapons to maximize combat abilities.
