If you can’t stand blood, violence, horror, or similar acts, Resident Evil Village is probably not for you. However, if you would like to play an epic toe-curling game, you should check out Resident Evil Village. Village is the 8th and the latest game in the Resident Evil series, and I must admit, it met almost all my expectations.

Resident Evil Village is packed with dramatic twists, as the dead hardly stay dead. Anything is possible in this action-horror game. Familiar faces are reintroduced, while players are faced with new and deadlier enemies.

Resident Evil Village was developed and published by Capcom. The game was released on the 7th of May, 2021, following the 2017 Resident Evil 7: Biohazard. Resident Evil Village is a single-player survival horror game, which also has an online multiplayer game mode. Currently, Resident Evil Village is available for Playstation 4, 5, Xbox One, Xbox series X and S, and Windows.

The Return of Ethan Winters

Resident Evil Village forwards to three years after the events of the previous game in the series. The protagonist (Ethan Winters) returns in the village. You would recall that the protagonist of Resident Evil 7 was Chris Redfield. In this series, however, Chris and his men kidnap Ethan and his six-month-old daughter (Mia) after killing his wife (Rosemary).

While attempting to find and rescue his daughter, Ethan finds out that the village was under attack, as invaders could be found all over the place. These invaders are in the form of werewolves and are referred to as lycans. The village is ruled by four mutant leaders who control their forces from their strongholds. The names of these leaders are Lady Alcina Dumitrescu, Donna Beneviento, Salvatore Moreau, and Karl Heisenberg.

Each of these leaders has unique powers and methods of attack. Lady Alcina is an extremely tall vampire-like aristocrat who has taken over castle Dimitrescu. Donna Beneviento controls her stronghold from a heavily guarded mansion. She uses a puppet (Angie) to do her biddings. Salvatore Moreau stays close to the village and operates from a reservoir, while Karl Heisenberg operates from a factory close by. The real leader (Supreme leader), however, is Mother Miranda, and the entire village worships her.

Modes and Weapons – Destroying the Enemies in Style

Resident Evil Village has both single-player mode and multi-player mode. While the single-player mode can be played offline, the multi-player mode can only be played online. The multi-player version is a six-player mode. Some other game modes, such as the mercenary mode, were reintroduced in Resident Evil Village. The mercenary mode was designed in an arcade style.

The weapons in Resident Evil Village include the LEMI Handgun and the F2 Sniper Rifle, which are found and used mainly in castle Dumitrescu, the M1897 Shotgun, which is very useful in the earlier stages of the game, the M1911 Handgun, which is found after completing the castle Dimitrescu mission, and many more weapons that will be found at different stages of the game.

Gameplay – Unrivaled Action

Resident Evil Village is played from a first-person perspective, where the player takes on the protagonist Ethan Winters. Its setting is based on a snowy European village. The setting can be easily compared to the Victorian era. While playing the game, I discovered that it was much more extensive and immersive than the previous games in the Resident Evil series.

The buildings and structures were designed in such a way that players could climb and fight enemies. In Resident Evil Village, Ethan is perceived to be more powerful and skilled when compared to the previous games in the series. The improvement in his combat skill can be said to be a result of his military training. If you plan to play Resident Evil Village, you should prepare for more action than you’ve experienced in the earlier series.

Like Resident Evil 4, players can defend themselves from enemies by taking advantage of the barriers in the game. Players can also move items around for their convenience. While playing, players can hunt, cook and eat animals, which will give them more strength and reduce the impact of any damage done against them. There are also lots of treasures that can be found around the village. Once found, such gems can be sold to Duke in exchange for currency.

Game Features like None Other

Resident Evil Village was designed to enable players save their game progress with the aid of a typewriter. This is an improvement from Resident Evil 7, which used tape recorders instead. Overall, the game design is similar to the previous series, with a few differences here and there. Certain features in older series were also reintroduced in Resident Evil Village.

The village has a detailed map that can be accessed from the pause menu. Another incredible tool that can be found in the pause menu is a diary that highlights players’ progress. The progress is shown in sketches that tell the story of how far the player has gone in the game.

I also noticed two new features in Resident Evil Village. There is now a photo mode that allows players to screenshot special moments of the game. Also, players can now skip cutscenes with a simple click of a button. Sometimes, players may just want to cut to the chase, and the ‘skip’ button provides that opportunity. There is a merchant in the village named Duke. He is the right guy to visit when players need weapons, supplies, and other necessary items. Duke also buys all the treasures players find around the village.
