Finding Answers to the Deepest Questions
This survival adventure game was set on planet 4546B, where the major character (Robin Ayou) is a xenobiologist who came to the planet in search of clues and answers about the real cause of her 7 sister’s death. Before her death, she was a scientist who had visited the planet with a team of other scientists. They had all vanished after an unfortunate fire incident in the lab. While the case was written off as a lab accident, Robin believed there was more to the story and was determined to uncover the mystery. Robin goes deeper into the game and discovers even more mysteries as she explores this alien environment packed with loads of booby traps and geographical wonders.
While exploring the abandoned research stations, Robin finds different databanks, logs, and other items that told a different story from what had been recorded pertaining to the incident. To survive on planet 4546B, Robin must efficiently manage the limited available resources. If you found Subnautica’s environment exciting, get ready to have your mind blown away in Subnautica: Below Zero. Everything is beautiful and captivating, from the caves at Glacial Basin to the Crystal Cavern crystals or the beautifully lit twisty bridges. You get to explore it all, from the mountains to the icy caves and the expansive water bodies. To make things more exciting, players can interact with different animals and creatures while playing. You can also discover and learn about different ancient artifacts scattered around the planet.
Exploring the Secrets of Alterra in Planet 4546B
As expected, Unknown Worlds Entertainment didn’t fail to impress me with the latest Subnautica game. Subnautica: Below Zero is played in the first-person style, where the player controls the major character. As the player, your goal is to explore the deepest parts of the planet and search for clues and answers concerning the scientists who died in the lab accident and the factual circumstances surrounding their death. To achieve your goals, you must explore the different environments complete different tasks to help you advance in the game.
You can express your skills and innovative abilities by collecting different materials and resources to construct different tools for building things that would help your advancement in the game. Although most parts of the game are played underwater, Subnautica: Below Zero took more effort to create some land-based areas, especially in the northern areas of the game world.
The climate and temperature vary greatly according to the time of the day and the season. The weather conditions such as snow, fog, hail, or wind could affect the game’s visibility. Thankfully, Subnautica: Below Zero introduced gadgets that can be used in extreme weather conditions to aid movement and visibility. Such gadgets include flashlights, mineral detectors, a helmet, and a booster tank.
There is a temperature gauge that is activated when the player is on land. The temperature gauge allows the player to know when they have been exposed to any harsh weather conditions. When exposed, the player may begin to develop hypothermia and can prevent or avoid it by refuge in a nearby cave, facility, or building. They can also use tools and gadgets that could help keep them warm or craft survival gear.
What Game Modes are Available?
Once you start a new game, you will have the option to choose from any of the four different game modes. The mode determines the difficulty level of the game. Below are the available game modes in Subnautica: Below Zero.
Survival Mode
In the survival mode, players are subjected to different basic life necessities, including hunger, taste, oxygen, temperature change, and health challenges. Hence, players manage critical resources like food, water, oxygen, etc. Some of these resources respawn after death, but others get lost from the inventory when the players have been revived.
Freedom Mode
The freedom mode allows you to explore more of the environment. The freedom mode is much more similar to the survival mode but has some minor distinctions. Unlike the survival mode, hunger and taste have been disabled in the freedom mode.
Hardcore Mode
Hardcore mode is tougher than the earlier modes, and the player has so much at stake. Players must carefully manage vital resources like food, water, oxygen, etc., as they cannot respawn after death. Their files will also be permanently deleted, and everything starts afresh.
Creative Mode
The creative mode allows players to explore their creativity. In the creative mode, health, oxygen, hunger, taste, etc., are all disabled, and the players can acquire more crafting blueprints. Since most resources are disabled in the creative mode, players do not need special resources when crafting. Also, players are provided with equipment and tools like knives, torchlights, scanners, habitat builders, sea glides, submersibles, among others. These items do not need any energy sources, and they don’t get damaged easily.
To survive the terrible climate state in any mode, you can construct different habitats and equipment or search for resources.
Subnautica Versus Subnautica: Below Zero
Subnautica: Below Zero brings a whole lot on the table when compared to its prequel. However, these changes make the series much different from the first game.
While lots of empty spaces, Subnautica characterized Subnautica: Below Zero paid more attention to these spaces. You are sure to find something interesting in each space, including all corners of the glacial and the seafloor. Don’t forget about the hidden areas too. You’re sure to have a swell time exploring and scavenging.
