World War Z is based on the 2006 World War Z novel and movie. It was developed by Saber Interactive and published by Mad Dog Games. The game is a third-person shooter video game and was first released on 16th April 2019 for MS Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. Saber Interactive released a Nintendo Switch version of the video game on 2nd November 2021.
World War Z follows some survivors of a zombie apocalypse. The survivors hid in New York, Jerusalem, Moscow, Tokyo, Marseille, Rome, and Kamchatka.
New York: A Fight for Survival
In New York, a group of survivors was too late to reach the evacuation point set up by the US army. While trying to find another evacuation spot, they meet another group of survivors who missed their evacuation point. After fighting off hordes of zombies, they finally reach the last evacuation site, only to find out that they had already departed. Desperately, they kept on searching until they found an evacuation site full of wounded civilians and a few soldiers. The group now has to help protect the injured civilians as they await help.
Jerusalem: Scientific Warfare
In Jerusalem, a photojournalist and some soldiers are on a mission to rescue and protect a scientist who is on the verge of finding a solution to the zombie problem in the world. The group was able to rescue the scientist, and they discovered that he and his team had already created a weapon that could destroy a horde of zombies with only one shot. The group now has to find a way to take the scientist to the facility and ensure that he gets the weapon.
Moscow Mission: Destroy it All
Some survivors in Moscow went in search of food when they came across a military helicopter crash. They found one survivor who joined their group and began to fight off hordes of zombies. The group then goes on a mission to locate and activate a deadly weapon that can destroy all zombies in the country. They go in search of a facility where they can activate the weapon. After reaching the facility, they detonate the weapon but get trapped in a bunker. They are left to fend off hordes of zombies as they await help.
Tokyo: Operation Damage Control
After the outbreak, the government began to evacuate the entire country. A team is tasked with ensuring that no survivor is left behind. They successfully escorted the last batch of survivors to the last ship, but they found out that some infected persons had gotten into the ship. They begin a damage control mission as they leave the country, hoping that they will one day return home.
Choosing the Perfect Team
There are seven sets of game characters to choose from.
- There is the Gunslinger who is skilled in range shooting. The gunslinger can shoot and destroy zombies from long distances.
- The second character is the Hellraiser, who is the master of explosives. Hellraiser is good at detonating bombs and other explosives but must be a bit close to the zombies to deal severe damages. The hellraiser can destroy hordes of zombies within a short period.
- The third character is the Fixer. As the name implies, the fixer can fix anything from weapons to automobiles. The fixer is usually referred to as the group’s engineer.
- Next is the Medic, whose major skill lies in healing group members. The medic is commonly known as the healer. When playing World War Z, I always ensure that there is a healer in my group.
- Another character is the Slasher, a cold-range fighter skilled in hand-to-hand combats. He is known as the melee fighter of the group. The slasher can only be used for close-range battles.
- The Exterminator is the best character when it comes to crowd control.
- The last character is the Dronemaster, who unleashes drones to attack zombies and defend survivors.
More Zombies Than You Think
The game can support as many as a thousand zombies appearing on-on the display screen simultaneously. When trying to attack people. If they want to reach players on a higher level,
they could climb onto each other to get them. Players can acquire different items while battling the zombies, but the locations of these items are procedurally generated. Apart from combating enemies, players may be required to complete specific tasks and objectives, which include escorting survivors to a safe location.
Gathering Supplies for the Rainy Days
Every location (also known as episodes) in World War Z is divided into three-five separate levels. Once you complete a level, you will receive “supplies,” a form of a reward system. The rewards are given based on your performance during the game. You can use the supplies to upgrade weapons or to acquire new attachments. If you don’t have enough supplies, you must fight on more levels to get them.
Exciting Game Modes to Watch Out For
You can play World War Z in either single-player or multiplayer game modes. In the single-player game mode, you will play with your team to defeat zombies and save the non-player characters. In the multiplayer mode, there are five unique game modes. The Player vs. Player vs. Zombie mode, the Swarm Deathmatch mode, the Swarm Domination mode, and the King of the Hill game mode.
My favorite game mode is the Player vs. Player vs. Zombie mode. In this mode, two teams of players fight against each other while a horde of zombies is stationed to attack both teams. The player vs. player vs. Zombie game mode is exciting as it is challenging.
Conclusion
World War Z is an exciting game with multiple storylines. You can choose any team from the seven featured countries. If you are a fan of apocalypse games, you should try out World War Z. It’s fun, it’s engaging, and it keeps you on your toes.
