Dying Light 2: Stay Human from Techland is an action-adventure RPG published in February 2022. It is the sequel to 2015’s Dying Light but uses different characters and a slightly different storyline. The game is available on MS Windows, PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox Series S, and Series x platforms. Hopefully, Dying Light 2 will soon be available on Nintendo Switch since it is currently in the development stage. If you played and loved Dying Light, you should check out the second because it’s bigger, more exciting, and has more aggressive zombies.

A Similar Storyline with More Content

Like its prequel, Stay Human is set in a zombie apocalyptic world where the protagonist can freely roam and explore the city. The game was set 22 years after the first game’s events, with Aiden Caldwell as the new protagonist. The storyline in Dying Light: Stay Human is more complicated than in the first game, with many twists and unexpected discoveries. This new game also has multiple alternate endings depending on your choices during the game.

All the residents of Harren were destroyed in the first game, and the Global Relief Effort succeeded in a vaccine for the virus that caused the zombie epidemic. They promised to cease any form of research on the virus but secretly continued their research in a controlled lab. Unfortunately, a stronger variant escaped the lab, causing a new pandemic. This virus spread much faster than the first virus and threatened to infect everyone in the world within a short period. This new event was referred to as The Fall.

Fifteen years after the events of The Fall, only a handful of cities remained, with a few survivors scattered here and there. The biggest and safest of these cities was Villedor, a city initially quarantined with a very big world surrounding the city. The quarantine prevented the new variant from entering the city, and the big wall prevented the hordes of zombies from penetrating the city.

A New Character with a New Mission

Aiden is a pilgrim who travels across different cities despite the increased risks of getting infected. He is now on a mission to find his sister Mia who has been missing since Dr. Waltz – a mad scientist – experimented on both. He receives info that the Dr. resides in Villedor, and Aiden takes off to the city to find Waltz and interrogate him about his sister’s whereabouts. On his way, he finds an informant who discloses Mia’s location and also gives him a GRE key with a strict warning to keep the key away from Waltz.

The informant gets adopted and killed in a quick turn of events, while Aiden gets bitten. The protagonist now has a limited time finding and rescuing Mia since he might not stay human for long. He walks into the city and finds it divided into numerous factions. He must decide to side with the factions to sneak him to the Central district.

So Many Skills that Makes the Gameplay More Engaging

In Dying Light 2, Aiden has various parkour skills, more fun with over three thousand parkour animations. He also has different weapons for warding off zombies and fighting the bad guys. He also has many abilities, including climbing walls and ledges, sliding and jumping, wall running, walking, and running. Some tools such as grappling hooks and paragliders are also available to aid his movement.

The majority of the combat is melee-based, but Aiden also has some long-ranged weapons like spears, arrows, and shotguns to kill enemies from a weapon. You must regularly upgrade the weapons since the downgrade after every use. Since Aiden has been infected, he also has superhuman skills to fight stronger enemies.

Fight Different Enemies from All Angles

To achieve your mission, you must defeat all kinds of enemies, including zombies, humans, and bandits. The zombies from Dying Light were recreated in this new game, but the creators also introduced new zombies. All the zombies seem to be slower during the day due to exposure to ultraviolet rays. However, they become super aggressive at night when there is no more sun to weaken them. You can avoid the zombies by sticking to the rooftop since they lack climbing abilities.

Navigating Through the Roofs

When I started playing Stay Human, I had many issues climbing roofs. I fell so many times, but I was determined to master the act since many of the missions required climbing roofs at a fast pace. It didn’t take too long to finally understand what I was doing wrong. I also learned new tricks to help me move effortlessly on the roofs.

Sometimes I use my grappling hook to glide through the lines connecting different roofs in the city. I could also use zip lines and jump pads to jump from one roof to another. Although not always available, the paraglide is also an adventurous way to navigate the roofs. If you want something tougher, riskier, and more exciting, you could always opt to climb and walk on the walls or hop on different solid areas as you hold on to ledges to keep you steady.

Conclusion

Dying Light 2 would be a must-play for you if you played the first in 2015. Everything about the new game is exciting, and you will interact more with the non-player characters. There are also many new and improved features in the game. What I love the most about Dying Light 2 is how my choices affect the game’s world, making me think twice before making a choice. The game also teaches players a lot about diplomacy since you must deal with non-trusting residents to reach your aim. Overall, Dying Light 2 is a great game that can be enjoyed by anyone who loves open-world adventure games.
