OXENFREE II: WHAT TO EXPECT

Oxenfree II is expected to be released in 2022 by Night School Studio, creators of the original Oxenfree game published by MWM Interactive. It will be available on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 platforms. Although Oxenfree ll was initially slated to be released on Nintendo Switch and PC in 2021, the release was not possible for some unknown reasons. A specific release date is yet to be announced but is projected to be released in 2022.

A More Mature Cast with Bigger Problems

The game’s sequel revolves around Riley Poverly and her friend Jacob. Unlike the cast of the prequel, who were a group of teenagers stranded on the mysterious island, Oxenfree ll features young adults who are way older than the teenagers, with more serious problems and challenges.

The Unstable Life of the Protagonist

The story didn’t tell us much about Riley’s mother, who was absent from most of her life. We learned that Riley’s dad is a veteran who lives in Camena. She lived a quiet life for a while until she became an adult, after which she moved to a new city. Her stay in the city, however, didn’t last long, as she moved to a different city shortly afterwards. Then another. And another… You get the drift. She was known for changing jobs as much as she was for changing cities.

Back Home to Solve Some Mysteries

However, she had to move back to her hometown after she heard of the unnatural waves occurring in Camena and how it affects so many things. Electrical and radio equipment was constantly misbehaving due to the radioactive waves. Many residents also reported more unexplainable events that influenced their behaviour and daily routine. On reaching home, she takes on a job as an environmental researcher. During her stay in the town, she experiences many unnatural phenomena firsthand.

As a research assistant, Riley’s job is to help the main research team as they try to get to the root of the problems. Some of her duties include fixing the radio transmitters in a specific area and data reports, among other entry-level jobs. Riley soon gets more than she bargained for as things become more complicated, and she finds herself in the centre of a supernatural adventure.

Similar Gameplay to Oxenfree (the prequel)

The gameplay in Oxenfree II is nearly identical to that of its predecessor. The gameplay of Oxenfree II: Lost Signals has a strong resemblance to the original game as it will feature a robust conversation system and a radio which will let players tune into supernatural signals. The game will be smooth and seamless, as does opening up different dialogue options and interacting with objects throughout the gameplay.

It seems like a lot was taken from the first game and integrated into its sequel, which is always a good thing about video games. The connection between both games will help gamers relate better with the characters in the new game. The only real difference between them is their ages and the storyline. While Alex and her friends were teenagers and students who went out on a trip that ended up becoming a supernatural adventure, Riley is a young adult who returned to her hometown purposely to investigate the strange happenings in her area.

More Interactive Visuals Than Ever

The graphics from the preceding title, Oxenfree, are brought back in a more polished form here. The unique art style is a lot more detailed in Lost Signal. The use of lighting and 3D objects makes for some great visuals, but what sets it apart is how interactive everything feels. The user can interact with all kinds of objects throughout environments, and an object may change or disappear depending on what you choose to do with it.

A Storyline That Shows Promises

The story itself is pretty strong and engaging, forcing you to pay attention to everything going on to understand and process everything that’s going on. It sometimes gets a little confusing because of what’s going on, but it makes for an even better experience as there are many twists at every corner.

More Features to Expect from Oxenfree ll

Both stories take place over the course of a single night, so you’ll have to be careful not to get caught by creatures lurking in darkness or run out of supplies during your investigation. In addition to exploring areas and solving puzzles, you can also communicate with other characters via walkie-talkie. There are many secrets hidden throughout both stories. You would have to examine every object closely and talk to all NPCs you encounter!

Each chapter ends with a few choices you made affecting how later events play out. Although they’re mostly minor changes, they add up and result in significantly different outcomes later on. Oxenfree mainly consists of two intertwined narratives, which essentially means that it plays like a series of linear adventure games contained within larger ones.

What We Know So Far

Like the first Oxenfree released in 2016, the new game is also a spectacular adventure game that features a realistic choice-based dialogue system, a scary atmosphere, and a highly imaginative storyline. Netflix recently acquired Night School Studio, which means we should expect more drama and excitement when the full game is released.

Oxenfree ll: Lost Signals was initially listed on PlayStation’s release database and was projected to be released in February 2022. unfortunately, this didn’t happen either. However, we hope to play the full version of Lost Signals in the next few weeks. Fingers crossed for this highly anticipated mystery game.

Conclusion

if you enjoyed playing Oxenfree I, you will most likely enjoy playing through its sequel just as much (if not more). Hence, you should watch out for its release as we expect it to be released on PS4 and 5 at any moment.
