After waiting for a long time, I got to test out the Beta version of Blue Protocol, and I can tell you that it is insane. Thousands worldwide have anticipated the premiere, but it has been delayed for many reasons.
This is an online JRPG, anime-style MMORPG, set in a world called Regnus. The graphics, made in Unreal Engine 4, remind me of games like Zelda Breath of the Wild and Xenoblade series. As an MMORPG, your characters get to evolve in the world and learn new tricks.
Blue protocol was first announced in 2019 by developers Bandai Namco. It has been in development ever since; however, there have been Alpha and Beta tests in Japan, with the last large-scale Beta test in April 2020. After the test, Bandai Namco went silent and only surfaced two years later, in April 2022, to announce that they were holding large-scale recruitment for multiple roles
Very Infectious Gameplay
This action-packed anime MMORPG combined an open-world environment with fantasy dungeons and monsters. You get to design your avatar and choose their age, voice, looks, wardrobe, and inventory. You would like to know that you can customize your character’s underwear, and there are about six-voice options to choose from. Blue Protocol is a weapon-based class system with action-packed combat and gear features. Your class is determined by the weapon you pick, so choose wisely. You can always change weapons and switch classes if you need.
You also get to summon monsters called ‘Imagines.’ I really wish more thought was put into that name but whatever. The ‘Imagines’ fight alongside you and have the power to heal and buff, which is always helpful in an anime world. As a weapon-based game, you get an unlimited inventory which feels pretty good. I didn’t get to explore certain weapons and their capabilities in the beta version. Blue Protocol has the edge over other anime MMORPGs because the characters can emote, pose, dance, and display realistic gestures.
The Concept Of World Bosses
World Bosses is the multiplayer mode of Blue Protocol, where you get to team up with players around the world to battle boss monsters. As exciting as the solo combats would be, quests, raids, and dungeons are more rewarding with a group. Your characters represent different classes, and you get to choose between five.
A tank character, Aegis Striker, whose major weapons are the sword and shield; a double axe-wielding DSP, Twin Striker; Blast Archer, who heals. There is also Spell Caste, who uses magic attacks, and Heavy Smasher, who is also a DPS. The ‘Time Attack Dungeons/Arenas’ reminds me of Bakugan battles where you battle in an arena for points. This is a competitive PvE where you battle for who can clear bosses the fastest.
Out Of This World Graphics
One of the selling points of these games has been the close exquisite anime rendering of the world. You can tell that the developers put a lot of attention to detail in the world they created. Blue Protocol is a treat for the eyes, from vast natural plains to fictional technology-driven cities.
The character’s movements like running, dodging, and sprinting are very smooth. The world is so immersive that you can forget you’re playing a game. I can state that Blue Protocol is the best anime MML I have ever played.
Infectious Anime Soundtrack
Although little is known about the game release date, we know that the theme song ‘Mirai’ was made by the Japanese band L’arc-en-Ceil. The gameplay features some wholesome anime music during regular movements and quests, but it increases in intensity during a duel.
Almost every action-adventure game does that, but instead of switching to an American action score, it combines oriental sounds and anime sound effects. You hear the leaves ruffle under your feet when you run through the woods, increasing realism. The same thing happens when you run through puddles and water, which shows attention to auditory details.
Conclusion
In conclusion, we do not know why this game has been delayed for this long, but it feels like the developers deny the world of this gem. I believe that upon release Blue Protocol would take the world by storm. It would appeal to anime lovers who fantasize and want to have control over their world. The Beta version still had a few bugs and glitches to fix, and I’m sure they would get around to all of that before release.
I hope that the game measures up to the hype already built around it upon final release. Maybe the more upsetting news is that nothing has been said about an international release of the game. The trials have been in Japan, and live streams do not reveal answers to pressing issues like this. The developers have stated that Blue Protocol will be free upon release, and I feel the game is too good to be free.
