Super Fowlst 2 is a sequel to Fowlst, an arcade rogue-lite game. It is arguably one of the most uncomfortable names to pronounce in the gaming world. Developed by Thomas K. Young, this skill-based action game was released in 2020.
It is compatible with Nintendo Switch, Android, Microsoft Windows, and iOS devices. It is quite popular for an indie game, probably because of the mix of influences or its rogue approach to gaming. Super Fowlst 2 assumes a larger scope than its predecessor but is more traditionally focused.
Predictable But Challenging Gameplay
The game follows Fowlst, whose sandwich meal was interrupted by a giant green demon. He was then swallowed and embarked on a demon-killing adventure. The truth is, there is not much sense to the plot, but it doesn’t affect the gameplay. You go on a world tour; killing means demons and bigger bosses than in the previous game. There are a total of 6 huge bosses to kill in this sequel and multiple unlimited stages to play through.
With Super Fowlst 2, you get endless gameplay. The controls are super simple when you think about it, but the gameplay is more divergent than you might be prepared for. To control the bird, simply click or tap the left and right sides of the screen to hop left and right. You can use fast-paced combinations to navigate very tight levels and kill everything in your path as you go. This motion helps you avoid obstacles and crash into enemies, thereby destroying them. You get to interact with a wide array of gadgets and gizmos that improve the game.
The goal is to see how long you can survive in the game while collecting cool in-game coins. You can trade-in your treasure for powers such as egg bombs and rockets, which help to amplify your attacks. You can also activate power-ups such as health and unique attacks that you have locked up by pressing X. There is a wide range of demons to fight, from the spiky and spinning demons to the flatulent ones and giant snakes, among others. They fire lasers and try to electrocute or poke you with their deadly spikes.
Very Slow Start
The quick and springy feeling attached to this game only comes across later in the gameplay because it has a very bland beginning. There is not enough zest in the beginning stages of runs, and you face almost no enemies in a featureless world. The first few levels in the game are predominantly lifeless and uninteresting. If you have just been disqualified from an active game and need to start again, these beginning levels are a huge letdown.
You may have to get to stages 4-5 before encountering anything remotely satisfying, which generally makes you hesitant to start a new game. For a new gamer, the increase in difficulty is not so steep that you lose control of the gameplay. However, I think that seasoned players should be allowed to continue from a later level after they are disqualified.
Nice Cartoonish Graphics
I believe that Super Fowlst 2 combines Angry Bird and Down well because of the gameplay and the graphics. Although it’s a more interesting game overall, it seamlessly ties to the aforementioned games. The graphics are nice and cartoonish in a way that works well for mobile gaming.
Gaming Experience On Switch
After conquering the Super Fowlst gameplay on mobile and Microsoft Windows, I embarked on the Nintendo Switch. I can testify that it maintains its charm on Switch. The left and right triggers fling you accordingly, and tapping the X tab allows you to power up and pick up the health and unique attack features. The game felt a little more satisfying due to the shoulder button control scheme of the Switch.
However, the Switch has a learning curve because the control is not easy to grasp. But when you get the hang of it, it becomes more pleasurable. For the low price of $3.99, Super Fowlst is hard to resist.
Rich and Enjoyable Game
Playing Super Fowlst 2 will unlock new moves and upgrades that push you forward, despite the predictable gameplay. You can exploit certain environmental hazards, like nudging an explosive or a bee-filled box and watch the enemies run for cover. There are many secrets to unlock and new buffs to find, among others.
The bosses are unlike the ones in Super Fowlst 2’s predecessor, which had a more arena-based level structure and minimal graphical style. Super Fowlst 2 has a lot more space for exploration. The levels are larger than the size of your screen and are filled with surprises and secrets. The game can end abruptly because of its fast pace if you are not careful. You get three hearts and lose one each time you get hit. It is somewhat annoying that you must go back to level one when you lose all three hearts. However, you can purchase runs with coins, which increases your survivability and firepower.
Super Fowlst 2 is the kind of game you want to get lost in for hours. In my experience, a few minutes in this world can quickly become hours. Despite this, I believe the developers missed a chance to release a complete package of the original and Super Fowlst 2 in one package as unlockables.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Super Fowlst 2 is not a complicated game as some people believe; it just might take some getting used to. Its affordability also makes it an interesting offer for great gameplay. Beyond the fact that it comes from the creator of Dadish, Super Fowlst 2 also comes with excitement and charm that will keep you locked for a long time.
