The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles is a visual novel game developed and published by Capcom and directed by Shu Takumi. It was released in July 2021 and is available on PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Microsoft Windows. At first, I didn’t believe my eyes; the storyline is insane, and the design is world-class.  The game is a compilation of two previously released games, The Great Ace Attorney: Adventures and The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve. The latest update to the game was released in September 2021.

The Story Of The Game Is a Perfect Mix of Two Worlds

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles takes place in the late 19th century, following the adventures of a young Japanese lawyer named Ryunosuke Naruhodo. After being accused of murder, Ryunosuke teams up with the legendary British detective, Herlock Sholmes (not a typo, as it’s a parody of Sherlock Holmes), to clear his name and uncover the truth behind the crime. The game’s story is divided into ten cases, each with unique characters, evidence, and twists. As Ryunosuke and Sholmes travel between Japan and England, they become embroiled in a series of high-profile cases that test their skills as lawyers and detectives.

The game’s storyline is well-crafted and engaging, with a strong emphasis on character development and world-building. The game’s script is expertly written, with a mix of humor, drama, and intrigue that keeps players invested in the story from beginning to end. As players progress through the game, they unravel a web of interconnected mysteries that tie together in surprising ways. The game’s final cases, in particular, are some of the most thrilling and satisfying in the entire Ace Attorney series. One of my favorite features of this game is its engaging characters. Each character is well-developed, with unique personalities and backstories that add depth to the game’s world. I found myself invested in each character’s story, whether it was the main character or the supporting cast. For example, the game’s protagonist is a detective who has a troubled past, which is explored throughout the game. I found myself rooting for this character, wanting to see them overcome their challenges and succeed in solving the cases they were assigned. Additionally, the supporting cast is just as engaging, with their unique motivations and personalities that add to the game’s overall charm.

Compelling Storyline with Unbelievable Twists and Turns

The game’s storyline is another standout feature that I loved. The cases are well-crafted, and the world where they take place is immersive, with a rich history and culture that adds depth to the game. As a player, I felt invested in the storyline, wanting to see how the cases played out and how they would affect the game’s world. The cases themselves are varied and challenging, with multiple twists and turns that kept me guessing until the very end. Each case felt like a self-contained story, with its unique characters and settings. The game’s writing is also excellent, with well-crafted dialogue that immerses the player in the game’s world. 

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles doesn’t just feel like you’re playing a game. It will feel like you found yourself in a 19th-century Japanese/English setting. You just can’t wait to reveal the outcome of the rolling events or the faces of the guilty parties. The cross-examination sections with the witnesses are just as exhilarating as the adventures with Sholmes. Unlike the real Holmes, Sholmes is clumsy and makes many mistakes. Hence, you must help him get certain things right. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles has you playing the roles of detective and lawyer, which is exciting and increases the suspense.

Stunning Visuals That Perfectly Mimics the Japanese Meiji Period and the British Victorian Era

The game’s visuals are stunning, with beautiful art and character designs that bring the game’s world to life. The attention to detail in each scene is impressive, with vibrant colors and intricate designs that make the world feel alive. 

Additionally, the character designs are unique and memorable, with each character having a distinct look that adds to their personality. The game introduces the two settings dramatically, where you’ll suddenly find yourself in different settings. Apart from the physical setting, Capcom also did great work mimicking court proceedings in the two eras. The cases and events also fit the real happenings of the period.

Stunning Graphics and User Interface That Keeps You Wanting More

The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles features 2D graphics similar to previous entries in the Ace Attorney series. However, the game’s graphics have been enhanced to use modern hardware, resulting in sharper visuals and more detailed character animations. One major change in the graphics department is the addition of fully animated scenes that replace the static images used in previous Ace Attorney games. These new scenes are very well done and add a lot to the game’s overall presentation. In addition to the fully animated scenes, the character portraits used in the game are also more detailed and expressive than in previous entries. 

The expressions are most noticeable for the game’s main protagonist, Ryunosuke Naruhodo, who has a wide range of facial expressions that help bring him to life. The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles features excellent graphics that are a step up from previous entries in the series. The use of fully animated scenes and more detailed character portraits help to make the game feel more immersive and engaging. The graphics in The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles are top-notch, and the game’s interface is smooth and user-friendly. The game’s art style is beautifully detailed, and the character designs are well-crafted. The game’s soundtrack is also a standout feature, adding to the immersive atmosphere.

One of the most thrilling aspects of this game is its high degree of realism, which makes it feel almost like a real-life experience. As a player controlling a Japanese character in the game, you can converse fluently in Japanese and English.
