In the world of Dragon Quest, there is a new adventure waiting to be explored. The adventure never stops, and it doesn’t get any better with Dragon Quest Treasures. As a big fan of the Dragon Quest series, I was eagerly awaiting the release of Dragon Quest Treasures. Thankfully, I wasn’t disappointed. This amazing video game was published and developed by Square Enix and Tose. The game reflects on the series. Dragon Quest Treasure was released in December 2022 and is available on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam. The latest update, an upgrade of the game, was released in February 2023.

A Storyline Filled with Adventure and Exploration

In Dragon Quest Treasures, you will follow the journey of Erik and Mia, two rogue siblings who are tired of their mundane life with the Vikings. They long for something more exciting, something shinier, and so they embark on a journey to find treasure.

Their adventure takes them to Draconia, a group of islands in the clouds that have fallen on hard times. Here, they explore vast lands, searching for treasure and making new friends along the way. They team up with archaeologists, build a base to store their trove, and fight off pirates who try to steal their hard-earned treasure.

As you play the game, you will feel like you are part of this fantastic adventure, exploring new lands and discovering hidden treasures. You will feel excitement as you fight off pirates and protect your treasure. Dragon Quest Treasures is like a make-believe game that neighborhood children might come up with during a weekend hangout, but with a magical twist that will keep you hooked for hours on end.

Along the way, Erik and Mia meet a cast of memorable characters, each with their reasons for joining the siblings on their quest. From a disgraced knight seeking redemption to a former thief looking to turn over a new leaf, the characters in Dragon Quest Treasures are a diverse and interesting group.

Dragon Quest Treasures Recreates The Dragon Quest Adventures

As you begin the play, Dragon Quest Treasures promises an exciting adventure in Draconia, a land with wings! Don’t worry. It’s not that scary. The wings are home to windswept moorlands, and there are chilly mountains and icy caves on its shoulder, which is called The Cold Shoulder. Cliche right?

Your major mission is to build a base for your gang of treasure hunters using the money you earn from finding loot. You’ll also help your cat and pig guides restore good favor with their gods. Collecting treasure is your main goal, but it’s not just hoarding shiny objects. You’ll be restoring dreams, connections, and purpose to the people of Draconia, even your rival treasure hunters, indirectly.

As you explore, you’ll encounter monsters you can recruit to help you dig up even more treasure. You’ll be finding more than just a piece of Dragon Quest nostalgia; you’ll be uncovering something valuable. And as you do, you’ll also be helping the regional train director get the train stations back on track, making exploring Draconia even easier.

Exciting Gameplay Featuring Puzzles and Exploration

One of the standout features of Dragon Quest Treasures is the focus on puzzles and exploration. As a departure from the traditional turn-based battles of previous Dragon Quest games, this new approach allows players to engage in a different kind of gameplay experience that feels fresh and exciting. The puzzles in the game range from simple block puzzles to more complex challenges that require careful planning and strategy. Each dungeon offers a unique set of puzzles that are challenging and engaging without being frustrating. I particularly enjoyed the way the game integrates puzzles into the exploration aspect, making each dungeon feel like a new and exciting challenge to overcome.

As they journey across Dragonia, Erik, and Mia must solve puzzles, explore dungeons, and fight monsters. The gameplay in Dragon Quest Treasures is focused on puzzle-solving and exploration rather than traditional turn-based battles. The puzzles range from simple block puzzles to more complex challenges that require careful planning and strategy.

Impressive Character Development

Another standout feature of Dragon Quest Treasures is the well-developed cast of characters. Erik and Mia are the main protagonists, and their journey to find their missing mother is heartfelt and engaging. The supporting cast of characters is equally as compelling, with each one having a unique backstory and motivations. As players progress through the game, they will learn more about each character and their struggles. This adds depth to the story and makes the player feel more invested in the characters and their journey.

Enticing Graphics And Simple Interface

I was very impressed with the game’s graphics. The art style is charming and unique, with a cute and cartoonish look characteristic of the Dragon Quest series. The colors are vibrant, and the environments are detailed, making the game feel alive and intense. The graphics are a unique blend of 2D and 3D elements, which creates a sense of depth and variety in the world. I like the attention to detail in the character designs, with each character having a unique look and personality. The monsters in the game are also well-designed, with a wide variety of designs that are both cute and menacing.

In terms of the game’s interface, I found it to be simple and easy to navigate. The well-organized menus provide all the necessary information about items, equipment, and abilities. The game also features a helpful map system that allows players to navigate the different areas of the game world easily. One thing that I particularly enjoyed about the interface was the way the game integrated puzzle-solving into the interface itself. For example, some puzzles require players to rotate blocks to create a path or move levers to open doors. The way the game presents these puzzles within the interface itself is clever and adds to the overall experience of the game

Conclusion

After playing this game, I can recommend it to any fan of the series or anyone looking for a fun and engaging adventure game. Dragon Quest Treasures offers a unique twist on the traditional Dragon Quest formula, and the charming graphics and well-written characters make it an enjoyable experience.
