If you enjoyed Destiny 2, Lightfall will be a welcome development for you. Destiny 2: Lightfall is an extension of the earlier game, with many new and exciting features. Destiny 2: Lightfall is an action-role-playing first-person shooter game that was developed and published by Bungle and is available on different platforms, including Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. The expansion was released on February 28, 2023. Lightfall follows the story of Emperor Calus, who was exiled from the Cabal. The storyline revolves around his adventures around the city of Neomuna on the planet Neptune after becoming a disciple of the Witness.
So Many Changes and Improvements in this New Game
Destiny 2 was fun, but the new improvements in the Lightfall expansion make the gameplay even more exciting. The new game now features new and intense missions and some Player versus Environment locations that bring more variety to the game. Also, you can now engage in one-on-one battles on the new Player versus Player map. They further enhanced the gameplay experience by enabling players to equip themselves with new gear and weapons. The game also introduced a new raid and two new dungeons to help put your skills and strategy to the test. We also learned that they’ll be bringing back a popular raid from the original Destiny or one of those previously removed from Destiny 2 later this year.
Like these changes are not enough, Year 6 of the game promises to be even more exciting with four seasonal content offerings. These contents include the Season of Defiance, which is available with the expansion, and then the Season of the Deep in May 2023. And there are two more seasons whose names are yet to be revealed to follow later in the year.
The Storyline is Just As Captivating As the Gameplay
One of my most favourite moments in the game’s storyline was the opening line, where we could see Destiny’s greatest villain, The Witness coming to the solar system to destroy humanity and everything related to humanity. I could watch it over and over again.
As The Witness’s pyramid emerged from the darkness of space, I could literally feel the sense of dread that rippled through the ranks of the Vanguard forces. There was no way they were going to overcome such limitless power. As expected, The Witness unleashed its fury upon the army so badly there was barely anything left when he was done.
Then came the Traveler, who happened to launch a final attack against the Black Fleet, which involved unleashing a beam of Light at the fleet. Unfortunately, the act was not nearly enough to counter the attacks or destroy the fleet. The Witness noticed that the Traveler had become weak and decided to take advantage of the moment to unlock its secrets. Through that medium, the Witness was able to receive a vision of Neptune covered with a veil, the incredible power it wielded, and the unknown potentials of the planet.
Of course, the Witness had to claim this ‘untapped powers powers of the veil’. Hence, the Witness ordered Emperor Calus and his loyal Cabal forces, known as the Shadow Legion, to join forces with its personal soldiers, the Tormentors. They were traveling to Neptune to retrieve the powerful veil covering the planet.
Exciting Plot that Brings the Whole Gameplay into Perspective
Playing an action-adventure is fun, but playing it in a cyberpunk-themed city Neomuna on planet Neptune is on another level. According to the game’s plot, the city of Neomuna barely survived the Collapse that just and on the planet. The Black Fleet also arrived on the planet during the period, which was more like a double hit for the city. Unlike most parts of the planet, Neomuna is a city occupied by humans, which consequently led to the city being cut off from the planet’s activities. The humans residing in the city are usually referred to as the Neomuni.
One of the consequences of being cut off from the rest of the planet was that the Traveler would not grant Light to them. This meant that they lacked the protection offered to the other cities. Rather than staying exposed to all kinds of dangers, the Neomuni decided to train some people called the Cloud Striders. They are a voluntary group of soldiers who chose to undergo a process called cybernetic augmentation. This process is aimed at protecting and defending the city, but it would also drastically reduce the lifespan of the soldiers who volunteered to participate in the process.
Lightfall Features a Bunch of Interesting Characters
Destiny 2: Lightfall had a way of mixing up its character combination that makes you just fall in love with them. The characters were introduced at different points of the game, and they had unique traits that made them stand out in your mind. While battling against the Witness and his band of evil, you’ll come across Strand, a subclass of green elemental that can aid you in training and exploring the history of Neptune. My favorite characters are, however, the Cloud Striders – Nimbus and Rohan – who are cybernetically enhanced humanoids standing at 12 feet tall. Both characters are amusing personalities that could crack you up all day. Rohan, an elderly Cloud Strider, is who is always a day away from retirement, while Nimbus, a young surfer dude, adds so much fun to the gameplay with his wacky jokes as you progress through the game.
Conclusion
Destiny 2: Lightfall features one of the best storylines and plots I’ve come across this year. The gameplay is also amazing, with incredible combats and dungeons. Despite its shortcomings in some technical aspects, Lightfall is a must-play for those who have played Destiny 2 or anyone searching for an interesting story-based action-adventure game
