Fortnite is a battle royale game on Android, iOS, Mac, PC, PS4, and Xbox. With a record of 3.4 million gamers, Fortnite is Epic Games’ most successful release to date. It’s an excellent choice for both newcomers and veteran gamers with simple game modes and colorful graphics. Fortnite blew up as the first free-to-play multiplayer battle royale on consoles.

The game has two gameplay modes – Save the World and Battle Royale. The first mode has a strictly Player vs. Environment (PvE) architecture. The Battle Royal mode forms the bulk of the game with more gameplay options and even daily players. However, both game modes share the same backstory. There’s a group of zombies, otherwise known as Husks, approaching, and you have to wipe them out. You can’t do that alone, so you’ll need an army of soldiers.

A Constantly Evolving Game

For someone who has played Fortnite for years, keeping up with the constant update is still a lot of work. Epic has maintained a tradition of introducing new items, changing the maps, and replacing available weapons. These changes are so frequent you’d think they happen every second. Some of these additions end up as brilliant, while others are worse than terrible.

The constantly-evolving setup means learning to play Fortnite is a lot of work. Getting grips with the game controls is another difficult feat, especially when fighting with a more experienced player. Gunplay is the most basic you’d find anywhere, so there’s hardly anything to learn there. Newbies who are familiar with shooters will have absolutely no problem.

Save the World: A Familiar PvE Experience

Save the World mode gives a familiar PvE experience. Here, you team up with other players to defend a territory from zombie enemies. While the zombies are as deadly as you can imagine, you have a repertoire of weapons and tools to withstand them. At the beginning of the gameplay, the stream of enemies was exhilarating. But after a while, it lost its spark and became boring.

You start off building a massive base with the materials you collect from surrounding areas. Then you make the base as impregnable as possible, using various kinds of traps. The swarming monsters will try to break this defense. But then it’s up to you to feed their heads with shots.

If you prefer a typical PvE to PvP, then Save the World will make a good play. You can decide to embark on easy missions or take a deep dive into difficult ones with terrific husks (zombies). So the tempo of the game is entirely in your hands.

Battle Royale: The Meat of the Game

Not trying to write off Save the World, but it’s nothing compared to Battle Royale. This game mode clearly avoids the repeated scenarios in Save the World. Here you have intensity right from the start and then all through gameplay. The game begins with your character rocketing to the ground, rushing for a weapon, and dealing with deadly shots almost immediately.

The game’s intensity is heightened by the fact that there’s no respawning after death. So when you take a fall, that’s the end. The only respite for death is the ability to join another battle immediately after death. But now, you’re starting all over.

Thank goodness you survived the opening scenes! Your next string of tasks will include gathering weapons, armors, and health bars for the next big match. To survive, you have to be extremely alert and battle-ready at every point in time. Once the walls start moving closer, with the field of play becoming smaller, it’s time for some action.

Everyone is in a rush for the loot, and it doesn’t take long before the frantic battle ends. If you’re able to pull that off, you get into the last stage of the match, often characterized by constructions and explosions. Jumping into the frenzy every time does give an unparalleled adrenaline rush, but there’s another way to win. While others battle their lives out for the prize, hide away somewhere – maybe in a nearby bush. If they all kill themselves, you end up winning as the last player standing. However, you can’t depend on this all the time.

As you move from one match to another, you get a completely new setup. Apart from your knowledge and experience, nothing from the old comes into the new. It’s for this reason Battle Royale edges out Save the World. Also, the game’s landscape is continually evolving, from one season to another. There’s no denial Fortnite’s regular update isn’t the best thing to happen to the game, but they do bring fresh additions that enhance gameplay.

In Battle Royale, you get several modes you can explore with other players. For example, the 50vs50 war mode that sees your team of 50 players battles it out with another team of 50. If the regular battles are getting tiring, switch to the time-limited match options. These alternatives aren’t just an escape from bore; they are intricately enthralling Battle Royale modes.

Conclusion

Fortnite keeps evolving, but it’s already made its mark as a fun-filled, intense game. It’s a game built for a variety of audiences, with two different game modes. Save the World doesn’t sustain its initial thrill, thus lacking replayability. However, the second mode – Battle Royale – measures up where the first faults. That’s where the real magic of Fortnite sits, making it an entertaining game to play.

It’s difficult to tell what Fortnite will look like in the future. However, one thing is certain: it won’t be the same game it is today.
