There are so many customization tools in the game to help you get creative. You can also see other players’ creations, but you can’t share or use them. If you are tired of driving, there is an ‘Off the Rail’ mode that lets you get off the train and take a stroll around the train station to either soak in the sights or complete mini-missions. Train Sim World 2 also has a multiplayer mode that lets you play and compete with friends.

Enjoy the Real-Life Inspired Routes and Trains

Train Sim World 2 gameplay is set on different popular rails to give you a realistic experience.  The high-speed mode was set on the Koln-Aachen route with the DB ICE 3M train. The long freight mode was set on the Baker loo line underground in London.  The famous CSX A4400CW takes you on an exhilarating ride on this sand patch route.  You can easily switch between both routes whenever you wish to.

The realistic designs made it feel like I was driving on the actual platforms. Although the first game was great, Train Sim World 2 brings more to the table. From advanced vehicle dynamics engines to excellent adhesion physics that makes train movements swift and more fun to control. Controlling the wheels in extreme weather conditions was an exhilarating experience. Train Sim World 2 recorded some significant improvements in the visual department as it now has skies and 4k support. 

If you are getting bored of the dark tunnels of underground tunnels in London, you can opt for a change of scenery by switching to the Koln-Aachen route. The German route has more to offer in terms of visuals en-route. The external camera comes in handy for viewing the scenery. 

Plenty Room for Creativity

Train Sim World 2 comes with two fantastic customization tools that allow you to express your creativity.  The livery designer lets you create various designs ranging from simple to complex designs.  The scenario planner is a scene customization tool that enables you to customize any scene of your choice.  With the scenario planner tool, you can choose any locomotive and select any route.

 After customizing your game designs and scenes, you can bring those designs to life on your routes. It makes the game more exciting when you are the proud owner of a part of the game design. There is no limit to what you can do. I have seen some great designs from some players, and you can do a better job. After all, nothing is stopping you.

Train Sim World 2 Lets You Be in Control

Unlike the first game in the series, Train Sim World 2 gameplay is much easier to control. The instructions are now more precise than ever. There is also adequate information on the gradient and speed profiles en route. The HUD display is perfect, and you can always stay in control.  Other important features that make it easier to control the game include unrivalled safety systems, great brake control, a functional power meter, and an accelerometer. 

The latest controller scheme provides great options for the game’s camera and the driving mode. The external camera features were also improved to enable players to access other locomotives within their line while the game simulation is still running. All the controls and visuals may seem confusing to you as a beginner, but after going through the detailed tutorials, you will understand the controls better. All you need to do is control your speed and ensure that you stop at the right platform.  

Glitches Not Enough to Spoil the Gameplay

A minor glitch I noticed in Train Sim World 2 is that you can still spot some passengers in the train after you have finished the route and are ready to enter into the sidings. This glitch, however, does not affect the overall gameplay or control. I love Train Sim World 2 because it gives players the liberty to walk around the station. It gives me the satisfaction of exploring the train station and also admiring the game design. 

A few passengers are waiting around the station, with realistic adverts and billboards. However, I noticed that there was no PA announcement, not even the usual announcement for dispatching trains. These would have added a nice touch to the game design. By walking around the train station, you can complete mini-missions like refilling your first aid kit.

Conclusion

The great thing about Train Sim World 2 is that you don’t have to be a train enthusiast to enjoy the game. If you love the exhilaration that comes with speed racing, if you appreciate excellent gameplay and game design, you will love the game. As a simulator enthusiast, Train Sim World 2 is one of the best locomotive simulation games I have played in 2021.
