If you are a fan of rock, metal, or heavy metal, you will enjoy Double Kick Heroes.  However, this game is not just about the music, as the developers also incorporated some shooter elements into the game. The game is adventurous with great music, stunning visuals, and exciting action scenes. Double Kick Heroes, published by Plug In Digital in December 2020, is available on PC, Xbox One, and Switch.

Unexpected Audience at a Musical Concert

Players begin the game as a part of a band about to perform at a big show. Everyone in the band is ready and excited about the show. They finally step out to the stage to wow their fans. The game takes a comical twist as the band realises that their supposed fans are a crowd of zombies. The show then hits the road as the band members are forced to run for their lives while destroying as many zombies as possible.

As the band members escape the hall, they meet more enemies, including wild animals and crazy humans. The band runs into their car (The Gundilac), fully equipped with weaponised musical equipment.  You can destroy the enemies by playing the drums and the other instruments in the car.

Mastering the Gameplay

You can manipulate the weapons by hitting specific notes on your instruments. Always ensure you hit the buttons in sync with the musical notes in the highlighted scrolls. I found the tutorial level beneficial when I started playing the game. The tutorial gives players the chance to practice and understand the basics of the game. It also allows players to understand and enjoy the rhythmic flow and the level of damage each mix can deal on the zombies.

The guns on the drums are located on the higher and lower snares. The position of your enemies should determine the gun drum snare you choose. For instance, when the enemies are drawing closer to the car, you should hit the A button, which kills enemies at a close range. On the other hand, the B button is best used when the zombies are still far from the car since it is a long-range weapon.

You can also mix up the buttons if the enemies are about to catch up with the car. If the move doesn’t take out enough enemies, you could shake up the car a little bit to increase the intensity of the bullets. As the difficulty level increases, you can manipulate the instruments to suit your needs. For instance, cymbal notes are very effective for long-range shootings. While playing the game, you can drive the car or set it to the automatic mode depending on the number of tasks at hand—the game awards bonuses for consistency by constantly hitting the notes without missing any.

More Action or More Rhythm?

There are many game modes to choose from, depending on your preferences. There are game modes where you can participate more in action, while other modes let you enjoy the music more. You can customise the game level to make it easy, normal, or complex. For instance, you could choose to turn off the enemies and simply enjoy the music. It is also possible to increase the difficulty level of the challenge. You can also turn up the speed level, control the car, or leave it to drive automatically. Always ensure you select or customise the game’s difficulty level to your satisfaction.

Two Power-Packed Game Modes

The primary game modes in Double Kick Heroes are the story mode and arcade mode.  In the story mode, players must survive the highway attack by escaping the sudden zombie invasion. You must kill zombies and wild animals before they get to you. The game also features some crazy humans who attack the players.

The story mode is as tricky as rhythmic games can get. Get ready to survive the massive horde of zombies with your musical instruments as your only weapon. Thankfully, your drum set and cymbal have enough guns to tackle the enemies. The arcade mode takes players straight to the action by skipping the background stories and acts. When playing in the arcade mode, you can play different metal tracks from the game. No matter what game mode you select, you can be assured of enjoyable metal music, enough action and adventure, and stunning graphics.

Impressive Graphics and Game Design

The game has slick graphics with an arcade design compatible with any screen size. The gameplay is straightforward – you need to take out your opponents by playing drums and cymbals. Every aspect of the game design is impressive, from the graphics to settings and other visuals.

Key Features of Double Kick Heroes to Watch Out For

This fantastic metal rhythm game features up to 30 metal songs created by one of the industry’s most popular video game and metal composers.  Double Kick Heroes also makes the game more engaging by infusing some crazy background stories. Part of the background stories features the lives of some band members involving sex, drugs, money, and of course, heavy metal.

If you love to experience some action alongside great heavy metal music, you are in the right place. This unique game features many explosions, zombie attacks, apocalyptic madness, rebels, and many more craze to keep you hooked. The metal and rock songs are the perfect fit to put players in the right mood.

Conclusion

Headbang Club’s Double Kick Heroes is a retro-style rhythm game. The primary focus is on gameplay and the story itself, with a simple graphic style and only metal music or hard rock as background sounds. It gets more fun as you progress through the levels. The combat system is satisfying; it’s not too hard to learn how to play but provides enough challenge to make it addictive. This game is perfect for Guitar Hero or Rock Band series fans. It’s also excellent for any gamer who enjoys rock and metal music. Ensure you have good hand-eye coordination, as you will need it to get through the zombie hordes.
