Arena of Valor was formerly known as Strike of Kings. The game is a multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) developed by TiMi Studio Group and Tencent games, published by Tencent Games, Garena,  and Level Infinite. It is available for Android, iOS, and Nintendo switch markets outside Mainland China. The game lets you control a wide range of heroes in adventurous battles, where you can earn gold and experience while playing. 

Arena of Valor was released on 13th October 2016, and in September 2018, the game grossed over $140million and was the highest-grossing mobile title in 2018, pulling in $1.9 billion in revenue.

In-Game Characters In The Fascinating World Of Arena Of Valor

The in-game characters were swapped from characters inspired by Chinese folklore and mythology to characters inspired by European folklore and several mythologies from other nations, blending various elements including horror, high fantasy, sword, and sorcery to appeal to audiences outside China. It also included other characters such as butterfly, violet, and mina from the age of Gunslingers, a third-person shooter game developed by a division of TiMi Studio group.

Epic Collaborations for an Epic Game

It was fascinating to learn that TiMi intended to feature characters from the Marvel Universe during the prototype of the strike of kings. Unfortunately, this was not possible. After the rebranding to Arena of Valor, TiMi collaborated with DC Universe. It also collaborated with franchises such as Wiro Sableng, Contra, KFC, Sword Art Online, Ultraman, Bleach, One-Punch Man, and Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba.

Intriguing Game Modes In Arena of Valor

What I found most interesting about the game is that it has various game modes that are full of excitement. The game modes feature battles in which players are required to fulfill certain tasks. Although I had my favorite modes, I still loved all the game modes. 

The Grand Battle of Arena of Valor

This mode is commonly referred to as the grand battle or ranked match. It is the most popular mode and my second favorite game mode. In this battle, the players aim at destroying the enemy’s turrets on the map and securing objectives such as killing the abyssal dragon and dark Slayer; You only attain victory when the enemy’s core is destroyed. I spent over 17 minutes playing during my first game. 

Shadow Duel

The match typically lasts for 4-6 minutes. It is a 3v3 game mode played on a “flatland battlefield,” using a much smaller map. In this mode, there’s only one turret and a core base for both teams. Shadow Duel is relatively short. But they are packed with excitement and adventure. 

Abyssal Clash

The mode is a 5v5 game mode. In this mode, players are given randomly selected heroes and a reroll chance. I find it thrilling that the players are selected at random. Not knowing which hero I’ll get, gives me the excitement chills. The game map is the abyss canyon, which has only one lane with two turrets and a core base connected at each lane. Exploring the map is my favorite pastime.

Hook Wars

The hook wars mode is one of the arcade modes of the game. It is also a 5v5 mode. However, there are no minions or turrets in the hook wars. Each player is allowed to use a hook as a special ability, which can grab an enemy from a long distance. The game map is the treasure bay and comprises two large connected vessels. In this mode, players aim to capture the control zone located at the center of the map. And hold the zone until the counter reaches 100%.

Football Fever

The football fever is a 3v3 arcade game mode. The game map is fantasy land, and to achieve victory, you have to score a certain number of goals with a unique talent called kick.

The Death Realm

Death Realm is a 2v2 arcade game mode on the map known as Death Realm. There are different spawn points belonging to different teams on the map. In this mode, the five teams face each other on the battlefield and gain points by defeating heroes from the other teams. It is placed on a fixed time of 8 minutes, and once the time is up, the teams are ranked according to their total score.

There’s also the gladiators summit which is a 5v5 arcade game mode, the Mayhem Mode, which is a 10v10 arcade game mode, and the Duo-Race, a co-op racing mode. 

The Valiant Heroes of Arena of Valor

As of 2021, the Arena of Valor has about 108 heroes, and these heroes are divided into numerous categories that play different roles. Some heroes deal physical damage, while others deal magical damage. You can counter the damages using the armor stat and the magic resistance stat, respectively. 

Some heroes deal both damages, while some deal true damage which cannot be countered by either magic or armor resistance. The heroes are classified into six categories, as mentioned below.

Marksman

The marksman mainly deals physical damage, mostly through their auto-attack. He is useful in team fights and in taking objectives such as turrets. However, the character can be fragile and vulnerable. 

Mage

These heroes deal magic damage. Some Mages are fragile, some are durable, and they can deal damage from afar and close distance.  Mages are also known as “AP carry/AP”.

Assassin

The assassin is designed to deal large amounts of damage quickly, and they often do not have much health. They have high mobility and burst damage for focusing on valuable enemy targets. 

Tank

Tanks are heroes with a large amount of HP and often deal little damage. However, they have an ability called “crowd control” that allows them to inhibit the movement of the enemy team. They can use these abilities to initiate a team fight and prevent the enemy team from attacking high-priority targets. 

Warrior

These heroes combine moderate survivability with respectable damage. Warriors usually have a balanced amount of health, defense, and attack damage. Warriors can survive long periods of fighting and excel in inflicting continuous damage. 

Support

These Heroes provide aid for the rest of the team by providing healing, buffing allies, or a combination of both.
