FAR CRY 6

The sixth main installment of the Far Cry series is out and delivers an interesting twist. Developed by Ubisoft Toronto and published by Ubisoft, this action-adventure, first-person shooter game comes about three years after the last installment. Developed with the Dumia Engines, Far Cry 6 plays on platforms like Luna, Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4 and 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.

The game follows the usual revolution story of the franchise and is set in the fictional Caribbean Island of Yara. Yara is ruled by a criminal dictator, Anton Castillo (portrayed by Giancarlo Esposito), who is trying to raise his son Diego to follow in his footsteps. You get to play a guerilla fighter named Dani Rojas, who is trying to topple the fascist leader and his regime. If this plot sounds familiar, it is a predictable storyline in many games and movies.

Same Gameplay With Subtle Improvements

The game is set in an open-world environment, and you must navigate most parts of it on foot. You can also move with land, water, and air vehicles, killing enemy soldiers. The gameplay is built heavily around armed and close-quarters combat, where you use a wide array of weapons (we’ll discuss these later). Your goal is the same as always, turn all the red dots on the map into blue dots. You may subtly sneak up on guards or go the more obvious route of throwing grenades and shooting guns.

Far Cry 6 gives a diverse and engaging play different from previous games because you are battling a more organized and equipped army. Thus, they can call forth reinforcements or airstrikes to smoke you out from your sniper’s nest, which keeps you on your toes. The game makes you feel like you are constantly on the verge of a tragedy or untimely death, which means you have to keep going. This is because you are pulling the weight of an army trying to pull off this great revolution.

You can’t help but feel powerful in this world of intense chaos, explosions, epic battles, etc.

Intriguing Cut Scenes

I don’t think many games come close to the captivating cut scenes in this game. They level up with some of your favorite movies in action and delivery. We also see Castillo’s Henchmen, from the psychotic navy admiral to the psychotic air force captain and the psychotic propaganda director.

Each character is as interesting as the next. Then you throw in an American pharmaceutical tycoon and a mad scientist, and you get a well-portrayed gamut of characters that strengthen the story. The decision to go back to third-person cut scenes was also great because now you can see the full range of characters. But despite these great portrayals, the story lacks the tension of previous games.

Immersive Graphics And Cinematic Translation

I enjoyed Ubisoft Toronto’s cinematic approach to building a believable world for Far Cry 6. The cinematic animation team did an exceptional job translating the details of the performances into digital character models. It was truly intriguing to watch.

The game world is divided into seven main regions, which have different sets of terrains, and this change of scenery helps give dynamic gameplay. You get to battle in the urban regions and the dense jungles, from the mountain ranges to the open oceans. The HUD is now fully customizable so you can turn off the health bar from the options menu. You can also do a wide range of customizations down to the color of the roads on your map, along with other accessibility options.

High-Quality Voiceovers And Soundtrack

You have to give it to the actors for giving impeccable and believable voicing to their characters. The soundtrack goes a long way in infusing emotion and scale into the world. The sounds of vehicles and weapons are very believable and intense. What is an action adventure without the constant screams of soldiers and bang of weapons?

Weapon Arsenal Makes A Strong Statement

Speaking of weapons, Far Cry 6 comes with a wide array to find, use and customize. You get to use various types of weapons through all the fighting scenes. You have the option of various conventional weapons such as sidearms, submachine guns, shotguns, assault rifles, light machine guns, sniper rifles, and grenade launchers.

You also get to customize your weapons using the materials in your environment. Unlike previous titles in the series, you can now holster your weapon, which means enemies will not always attack you unless you walk into a restricted area. And there are quite a lot on this fascist island.

Far Cry 6 also features several prototypes of special weaponry called Resolver Weapons. They come with different advantages depending on where it is needed, from the silent close-range nail gun and a slingshot projectile weapon that fired CDs to Supremo backpacks through which you can fire homing missiles to cause pandemonium in the enemy camp. You also get portable EMP cannons that can disable tanks and helicopters.

There are vehicles with machine guns mounted above, with which you can shoot as you race enemy vehicles. There is also the hot-swap of a paraglider where you can take off while shooting enemies.

You need to understand when to change ammo in this game. The enemies have unique resistance and vulnerabilities, which means specific types of ammo are good for different stages. You also get to move around with pets, which is the cherry on top.

Conclusion

In Conclusion, Far Cry 6 is the best installation in recent times. After a long list of average outings, Far Cry 6 comes close to capturing the essence that made the series a global success. It falls short in other ways, such as the inventory system, which creates other problems while trying to solve old ones. Still, franchise fans would have a great time blasting through this game. It offers no unique features, but it remains a great choice to unwind.
