If you have ever imagined what it would be like to be the monarch in a realm set in Game of Thrones, this is the game for you. Reigns: Game of Thrones is a strategy game named after the popular Television series and serves as a spin-off from the main Reigns games.

The last Reigns: Her Majesty was a prestigious game with very interesting twists and turns, but what could be more unpredictable than a Game of Thrones game? The game was developed by Nerial, published by Devolver Digital, and runs on the Unity Engine. Reigns: Game of Thrones is compatible with Android, iOS, Linus, macOS, Microsoft Windows, and Nintendo Switch platforms.

Classic Swipe ‘em Up Gameplay.

The Reigns: Game of Thrones gameplay is similar to previous Reigns games and is quite simple. It has a ‘Swipe them up’ gameplay that allows you to play as one of the characters from Game of Thrones. Citizens and advisors approach you with a series of questions regarding the kingdom and how it should be ruled. There are always two options, and you swipe left to accept ad right to decline the proposal of the question. The questions directly impact your military strength, religious favor, domestic popularity, and state wealth. It is a very nuanced game because you know what sectors would be affected but not the extent of its effect. If any factor rises to its peak or drops to the minimum, your character dies and is replaced. This increases the game’s stakes and forces the need to make better decisions.

The beauty of Reigns: Game of Thrones is that the gameplay is not merely swiping left or right. It involves paying attention to the factors affecting issues in your kingdom. You may find that a piece of information given in a previous discussion in another kingdom would impact your decisions. It also involves in-depth knowledge of the characters and their capabilities. This must also be balanced with anticipating the impact on your kingdom.

The game takes a minimalistic graphical and audio approach, allowing the gameplay to shine. You start every run with the crown, trying to keep it. You begin the delicate dance of royal diplomacy, unpredictable game of internal politics, protecting your borders, waging war, and much more.

Play As The Great Cast Of Game Of Thrones

The game begins with Daenerys Targaryen, and you gradually progress and unlock other major characters, including Cersei Lannister, Jon Snow, Lannister, and Sansa Stark. Previous Reign games would quickly become tiresome after a few failed attempts, but Reigns: Game of Thrones gets the added motivation of playing popular characters.

This can sometimes make up for the monotony of the gameplay. However, in classic GOT fashion, there are many ways to die. Suppose you manage to maintain the balance between the four major elements driving your kingdom. In that case, you can still die on the battlefield from drinking a poisoned chalice, encountering a dragon, or not surviving the treacherous winter.

Minimalistic Graphics Representations

There Is little going on graphically in Reigns: Game of Thrones as it seems to oppose the grandeur of the TV series. This monotony and minimalism may sometimes get you tired of this mode. A basic 2D graphical representation of the game of thrones characters shows their basic feature. The game follows the Reigns portrait mode.

No Single-Player Mode

This game is a purely single-player mode. It starts simple and quickly becomes complex. Reigns: Game of Thrones could have done more on a narrative angle where a group of friends sit together, play different characters, and see how their decisions after others. This would have made it a communal experience, just like the source material. However, having a multiplayer mode would require a perfect unison of time and interest in the game.

Over Extended Gameplay Of Reigns

One of the biggest issues with previous Reigns games has been their length. There is a very long path to tow and a dizzying number of potential routes to take that the story begins to get tiresome. After a few days of constant play, you will get exhausted at the level of choices and complexities you need to take. This lack of staying power is also seriously exposed when played on Switch.

This can be a big challenge to new gamers who do not have the fortitude to handle elongated gameplay. A game Reigns could have harnessed the widespread audience of Game of Thrones and turned them into lovers of the game. If you are a professional gamer, a lover of the series, and someone with a lot of time to spare, then you will have a blast.

Exceptional Writing And Plot

The weakness of Reigns: Game of Thrones may be its biggest strength. The game is so well written and downright unpredictable that you may forget the time you have spent. There is hardly a way to design a game of this magnitude without making it elongated. The game follows in some of the series’ footsteps which is more refreshing.

Soundtrack: Another Minimalist Approach

The soundtrack follows the understated and minimalistic approach. Just like the graphics, it is poised to give an ambiance that punctuates the gameplay, not take up its own space. It sits quietly in the background and can face away into oblivion. You also notice the instantly recognizable score.

It is also noteworthy that there are no voices attached to the characters. The developers may have viewed this as an unwarranted cost to the game. I view this as a missed opportunity. They have done a great job replicating the imagery and character of the Game of Thrones franchise. They could have gone the extra mile to infuse nostalgia.

Conclusion

In conclusion, Reigns: Game of Thrones is an interesting, engaging, and dense angle to the Game of Thrones lore. It combines many stories and calls you to know and understand them. It can also be played by non-Game of Thrones viewers. It is the best Game of Thrones game adaptation out there.
