This third-person shooter, a thrilling Vampire hunting game, gives you a chance to become an old west hero, assuming the role of Jesse Rentier. As the Hero of the West, the game places you between the line of the rest of humanity and a vampire invasion. Evil West is a video game developed by Flying Wild Hog and published by Focus Entertainment.

 If you have ever fantasized about what it would be like to be in a world where vampires, werewolves, and zombies, then Evil west will be an amazing play for you, it doesn’t bring them to reality, but it brings the adventure close to you. Announced at the Game Awards 2020, Evil west was inspired by the Devil May Cry series and 2018’s God of war. Evil west was released on November 22, 2022, for Windows, Playstation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox series X/S. 

Brutal Gameplay Featuring Bloody Weapons

This thrilling game is one of the few vampire games that had me on my toes all through. Although it is a bit too repetitive, Evil west still does it for me. As one of the last agents of a vampire-hunting organization, the player sets out to protect the American frontier by hunting down vampires and smashing monsters’ heads. The storyline is also captivating, making the game so much fun. The storyline allows me to feel the game and the action. Most importantly, everything about the gameplay gets me hooked. 

In Evil West, the player plays Jesse Rentier, a vampire hunter. The weapons used by the player include a six-shot pistol, a rifle, and a flame thrower. The player also has melee weapons, including a gauntlet capable of destroying magical powers and an axe. I prefer the melee weapons because they make the fights seem bloodier and more brutal.

It Gets More Interesting As You Gain More Weapons 

Evil Dead gets you hooked from the beginning, but things get interesting once you’ve reached a certain level and acquired more skills. As you level up, you get to learn and gain new skills. As you gain new skills, you get to upgrade your weapons, which means you get to finish more zombies in more brutal ways. Another interesting fact about the gameplay is that you can use the environment to your advantage, for instance, kicking enemies into a spike trap, etc.

You will also meet special boss characters with unique attack patterns. Tough, but worth it once you defeat them. The game’s action is smooth and easy to enjoy. However, there are low enemy varieties and repetition of layouts, making the game easy to predict and dull. However, if you enjoy smashing the heads of monsters, then you will surely enjoy the action and may not even notice the repetitions of enemies or layouts. 

Meet The Vampire Slayer, Monster Smasher, and Protector of the American Frontier

The plot and storyline make you feel like you are in a realistic world where the fate of the world depends on you. Well, it does in this game. Jesse Rentier is an agent of the Rentier institute and happens to be a committed agent. The institute is a secret organization dedicated to fighting supernatural creatures. They fight supernatural creatures like vampires, which is what led Jesse to chase Peter D’Abano, a high-ranking vampire, with a retired agent Edgar Gravenor. 

Peter D’Abano plans to declare war on humanity and destroy all humans before they destroy all vampires, his plan is rejected by the rest of the vampires, and he is sentenced to death. Jesse and her partner Edgar can track him, and they behead him, taking his head back to the Rentier Institute. 

Taking D’Abano’s head may have been a bad idea for the two, as D’Abano’s daughter attacked the manor where they were, recovering her father’s head, inflicting wounds on Williams (Jesse’s father) and killing most of the agents there except for Jesse, Edgar, and Harrow, who is the assistant secretary of war. 

More Twists As The Storyline Progresses

Before William was injured, he had handed over a gauntlet capable of breaking the vampires’ magical spells that keeps them hidden. Unfortunately, it was broken during the attack by Felicity, so Jesse tries to fix the gauntlet, and Edgar, suspecting his father is infected, sets out to find a cure. 

In finding the parts needed to fix the gauntlet, Jesse finds that Felicity has been and is still using blood from a best to create her army of foulbloods to bring her father’s dream of ending humanity to pass. Jesse destroys the source of this blood but is unable to capture Felicity. After several failed attempts at getting Felicity, Jesse sets out to further upgrade his gauntlet.

The Transformation That Changed The Balance

The treatment used on Williams was only temporary, and William transformed into a vampire in a matter of time. Jesse had to track down his father and kill him before he harmed anyone else. It was difficult, but it had to be done. Jesse is, however, able to track down Felicity, killing her and putting a halt to her plans. Although that does not mean an end to the war against vampires, it earned the Rentier Institute reinstatement and full backing from the government. 

Conclusion

If you enjoy killing Monsters, you will certainly enjoy this game, even with its predictable and repetitive gameplay and unoriginality. It is a fun and smooth game with interesting characters and a storyline. I feel much could have been done with the storyline, but a son who is out for revenge is also not bad. The environments in the game are worth mentioning here, they are beautiful and an exciting sight to behold. Flying Wild Hog did a great job in bringing this Vampire-hunting thrilling game to life, it may not be so complex and innovative, but if it’s just some action and thrill you are looking for, then you should give it a try, who knows what you will find.
