GWENT is the card game spin-off of The Witcher series of games developed by CD Projekt Red, the developers behind the popular Witcher series. Designed by GOG.COM, the game has been available in beta on PC and Xbox One since December 2018. Its open beta was released to console players and mobile users in March 2020.

GWENT is available on multiple platforms, including Windows and macOS, PlayStation 4, Xbox One,  iOS, and Android devices. To its friends, the game is aptly titled The Witcher Card Game or GWENT. As a massive fan of the series, I couldn’t wait to try it, so I installed the beta client and started playing straight away.

You Get to Relive Heroic Moments from The Witcher 3

The game is set in the world of The Witcher and follows Geralt of Rivia and other heroes in the series. GWENT is a card game based on Gwent, originally a mini-game from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, with both online multiplayer mode and a single-player campaign. The game offers a variety of cards to build your deck.

Since every faction has a different mechanic, it’s necessary to be able to adapt your strategy during gameplay. One downside I have noticed so far is that many cards rely on luck or are not explained very well (such as which cards are considered “high” or “low”), so you need to play for a while before you get used to them.

The Game Mechanics Aren’t Different from Typical Card Games

The game’s mechanics are very similar to other card games, but it has a few features that distinguish it. One of these features is that you must play cards in a certain order. If you want to play a card, you have to announce what card you are playing and discard the same number of cards from your hand. My favorite feature is probably how easy it is to play; there are not too many complicated rules.

In this game, players take turns playing cards from their hands to fight enemies or build up their armies. Each player has five cards at any time; if they cannot play a card, they must draw another one.

Pick Your Favorite Hero from the Cards

GWENT is a card game based on the lore and world of the Witcher series of books and games. Players take on the role of a hero and battle against other heroes. They use their cards that represent characters, spells, or abilities to attack their opponent. At the start of each round, players draw two cards from their deck.

Each card has a specific amount of power that it will add to your total power if they are in your hand when you play them. To win, you must have more points than your opponent at the end of each round.

A Strategic Gameplay with a Touch of Luck

Although there is an element of luck in the GWENT gameplay, your victory mostly depends on your skills and strategic planning abilities. You can choose to crush the enemy with brute strength or outsmart them with clever tricks. No matter your deck, GWENT’s unique round-based gameplay opens up a world of strategic possibilities within which to play.

What I love the most about GWENT are the many ways to play the game. Whether it is a quick game against a friend, an intense competition at high-stakes PvP battles, or something new and wildly adventurous like the Arena, GWENT has got you covered.

A Satisfying Adventure That is Worth Your Time

Join Geralt, Yennefer, and other favorite characters from the Witcher Universe in an epic card game — GWENT. Blending both traditional collectible card games and trading card game elements, GWENT is a fast-paced online player vs. player duel. You can use witcher spells and abilities to outwit your opponents while collecting them through various game modes such as classic and casual modes, the seasonal mode, and playing on the arena.

It is very easy to become immersed in GWENT’s unique atmosphere while enjoying its engaging gameplay, which will test even the most seasoned card players’ skills when they step up to the challenge of earning glory among their peers through tense yet satisfying matches. The game’s developers offer frequent updates and release new features that make the gameplay more exciting, as it will keep you coming back time after time to see what else it has to offer.

Gwent Occupies a Pivotal Role Within the Witcher Universe

GWENT is a must-play for card game lovers. The game stands out from the other games in The Witcher series as it bridges two timelines — pre-game and post-game. This card game allows players to play as characters from both timelines at once. When playing the game, you begin by choosing which faction (of six) you would like to represent — Northern Realms, Nilfgaard, Scoia’tael, Monsters, Skellige, or the newly added Syndicate. From there, you can craft your decks using units, spells, etc., that belong to that particular group of allies or enemies of Geralt’s storyline only. All other groups are fair game, too, if you choose to play them.

This is where things start getting spicy! If done right, you can easily create devastating and explosive levels of destruction against any enemies foolish enough to stand in your way. You can force opponents into awe and wonderment at what just happened when they are trounced underfoot by forces beyond comprehension. It is quite exciting and thrilling.

Conclusion

I recommend GWENT to anyone looking for a new card game with depth and adventure. It has some complexity to it that will be satisfying for experienced TCG players while being easy enough to pick up and play that someone who has never played one before can also enjoy themselves. Any fans of the series or card games, in general, should not miss this game. If you want something to play with friends or keep you occupied for hours, I recommend checking out GWENT today.
