Players can climb the game’s ranked ladder by earning “cubes.” A match starts with one cube as the stakes, but players can choose to “snap” at any time, doubling the stakes. This gives their opponent a choice to back out or accept the snap.  This feature is much similar to the doubling cube feature in the classic board game Backgammon.

For example, the symbiote planet Klyntar will depower every card played on it, and NYC’s Central Park adds a 1-power squirrel to each other location. The locations are revealed from left to right over the first three turns, making the game unpredictable as a surprise location can change the course of the match. Sometimes players may have to gamble by blindly playing a hero into an unrevealed location. 

The locations are inspired by famous places from the Marvel comics and cinematic universes, such as Westview from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, which changes into another random location on turn four, or Bruce Banner’s Gamma Lab, which turns every card into a Hulk. These locations are some of the most imaginative homages to Marvel canon, especially for those familiar with comics, such as The Space Throne.
